Seeing as the politics community only allows links to articles, which I think is stupid horseshit. Let's talk openly about changes we want to see here. I think the whole "this isn't the place for politics" is a part of the reason we're in this shit situation. We've let the greedy narcissists take over all discussion while we have no where to reasonably talk about policy.

I'll start with a couple:

End presidential pardon

Raise federal minimum wage to $15

Federal cannabis legalization (buy/sell/grow)

End daylight savings

Yeah I had a problem with that on a post. Some news rules would not allow for it but then the way politics was setup was a problem. I think the whole thing was kinda tangental to but im not going to violate rules willy nilly. That being said our democracy has been totally degraded so for me its like passing laws to nullify citizens united, revoking the patriot act and associated anti rights and privacy laws. Every law limiti rights needs to be revoked. Many like due process and search and siezure pretty much become useless if they are not applied in all cases. also all laws increasing presidential power. we also need to get rid of first past the post and the electoral college. I mean this is just a minimun so that we can correct everything else in a more properly working democractic society.

Ranked voting should be everyone's number 1. Don't like the republicans because they're racist shitheads? Democrats because they are too friendly to racist shitheads? Change democrats to your #2 vote.

Voting should be compulsory and election day a national/federal holiday

This + abolish corporate personhood mitigates half our problems. Hold C-suites criminally liable for company misconduct, remove lobbying, and ban stock trading for lawmakers and we're 80% fine.

Ranked choice voting. I’d also like to see Dems start pushing universal healthcare.

I also agree with the suggestion to expand the Supreme Court. One justice for each circuit.

Ranked choice gets us everything else listed in this thread. And yes, 13 Justices. That gets us a long way towards these other goals.

End presidential pardon

Chelsea Manning and Ross Ulbricht would still be in prison if not for that. Are you sure that is something you want?

No more policy written by lobbyists.

[-] shalafi@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago

Tough to legally define. We have a right to address our grievances with the government. Lobbying is the only way to be truly heard. Want to throw the ACLU out?

I want to see more democracy at a more fundamental level. I reject the notion that more direct democracy is impracticable or that workplace democracy is infeasible.

If I'm a voter in a community I should be able to just vote directly, and constantly on whatever the local council would be doing. New bypass or shopping center? New issue? Comments being given? All of this could be done in a simple secure app. And if I'm disinterested, I could assign my vote to follow someone I know or trust to reflect their vote, or just not vote at all.

I've considered the idea of a new political party based on this. The party members run on the premise that once elected, they'll simply do whatever you tell them to via the app. Obviously there would need to be security and verification via the app, but this isn't an intractable problem. Its not like we don't have banking or other secure apps.

That's actually interesting. Reps would be responsible for

Did you even check the shit you linked? The piefed one seems okay.

There's no such warning on Piefed, no need to be so aggressive.

That's the first link, other than some comments, that's ever directed me properly. Firefox on PC.

  • A flat tax. No loop holes. Billionaires and corps pay their share.
  • Outlaw lobbying as corruption and bribery.
  • Members of congress and senate get paid the mean wage of all us citizens. If we do well, they do well. If they fail us, they don’t do well. Only way to get a pay raise is to do their job. Work for us. Not corporations.
