That said, I can imagine some college graduates going along with something like this simply because they don't have the life experience to really understand the legal, political, and social ramifications of what they're doing.

It's fine, Musk can find a new batch of kinda smart but not really college dropouts with delusions of impressing a narcissistic rich guy and a history of starting arguments with "well, actually, white men are the most oppressed social group". They seem to be cloning them at industrial scale these days.

Musk had not been just their visionary leader. For them, he was their protector: the man who had a direct line to Trump, who they believed could pick up the phone and secure a presidential pardon if the worst came.

What kind of person does something with the expectation that they might need a pardon? Only people who think they might be committing a crime. You know, criminals.

And I would argue that if they were committing crimes with the expectation that Musk would secure them pardons from Trump, that is describing a conspiracy that includes Musk himself. (As well as Trump, but it wouldn't be possible to charge him with that, given a recent Supreme Court ruling.)

If I was the next president, I'd have everybody from DOGE on federal charges as soon as was feasible, including Musk... Although given Trump's health, the next president will likely be Vance. I wonder what the odds makers put on Vance being the next president.

I've never feared criminal prosecution after doing work, maybe because I've never done anything illegal? Why is it that some people (often wealthy) think that laws won't apply to them? Especially people around Trump when he has had demonstrated history of throwing so many people under the wheels in the past?

DOGE members are no different from ICE, they impart violence upon the innocent through bureaucracy. Both DOGE and ICE should put to trial at Nuremburg 2.0 as a class, and then anyone found on the books in their employ, executed.
