My venezuelan neighbor supports her and wishes for a "quick and painless regime change". Idk how to explain to her this has never happened in the history of US interventionism when she keeps saying "its possible"... 😫
Your first mistake was trying to get a gusano to not be a gusano
Quick and painless, that's what that offshore navy is for
The f-22s are there to drop confetti and notes of congratulation
Focusing on "this has never happened before" might be a good way to avoid getting bogged down in the merits of the current government (a far broader topic), whatever plan is being proposed, etc.
i mean a) I don't know anything about maduro, chavez or the government before b) i am of the opinion germans should have less opinions and I shouldn't crackersplain her country to her
fun fact but googling "UN rapporteur Venezuela sanctions" looking for the name of the guy who went in like 2016 shows a bunch of articles from the 2020s with an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT rapporteur sent to Venezuela. I don't know her background, but the first guy was a Harvard educated ghoul
Know what they both had to say? THE SANCTIONS ARE KILLING PEOPLE. THE SANCTIONS ARE STARVING PEOPLE. WITHOUT THE SANCTIONS THINGS MIGHT NOT BE GREAT, BUT THEY ARE UNEQUIVOCALLY DOING MURDER.
The sanctions from the same country whose official government has official records stating the explicit intent of sanctions on Cuba is to STARVE PEOPLE and force them to overthrow the government.
That should tell you all you need to know really.
That's all true and you can find politicians saying the intentions are starving the people into causing an uprising in Venezuela (not just Cuba or Iran) - but it's not all you need to know - the running of PVDSA has a very complex history and there were certainly elements of economic mismanagement in Maduro's time as well as Chavez. If however countries were open to helping Venezuela with oil refining and subsidy strategy rather than destroying it to get control of their oil, there would be a different outcome.
there were certainly elements of economic mismanagement in Maduro's time as well as Chavez
and the rapporteurs say all that but then state in no uncertain terms "it's the sanctions killing people"
Then what the fuck is it?
After faking killing babies in incubators, accusing people of being responsible for 911s, anthrax attacks, literal weapon of mass destruction hoax, the hegemon cinematic universe has gotten out of hand. This is a "back to roots" reboot featuring a more grounded script
The
was the whole Cartel of the Suns and blowing up rando boats.
My "This is not Regime Change" t-shirt has given rise to many questions answered by my "This is not Regime Change" t-shirt.
a sparkling transfer of power
There's a chance!
An administrative shift!
they blew their load on those lies trying to smear palestinians
Isn't one of the most telling signs that a coup is occurring is when someone on TV goes "this is not a coup?"
It's not a regime change, it's a change of the regime. Totally different
It worked for socdem and demsoc sooooo
CIA ain't even trying anymore
Also "democracy dies in darkness" - people who literally support undemocratically invading a nation for their natural resources. Fucking infuriating
~~Saddam's~~ Maduro's giant people shredder
This is just a tribute.
What is John Green doing?!
My message to her is
😌
I heard about the airspace closures, it's gonna get hot soon, isn't it? I'm stressed out over this...
That Mother Teresa pose is on point. The ingratiating smile is just evil. Think of all the money they promised you, Maria.
First as tragedy than as slop 😔
death to america

Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:
-
To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).
-
To encourage community members to contribute commentary and for others to thoughtfully engage with this material.
-
To support healthy and good faith discussion as comrades, sharpening our analytical skills and helping one another better understand geopolitics.
We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.
Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:
The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.
-
Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.
-
Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.
-
Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.
-
Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.
-
Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.
-
Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.
-
American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
-
Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
