Love these visualizations! Looks fair enough to me, except I cannot fathom why people pay these concert fees. And shouldn't Ticket Master show a massive take? Or does Swift get around using them?

[-] ikidd@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Promoter fees probably.

So she could cut prices in half and still make more money than a reasonable person would spend in a lifetime but she doesn't.

Greedy scum, eat the rich!

Are transport and accommodation costs included in staging?

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I'm honestly surprised more of it isn't merchandise

[-] Rhoeri@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Funny how none of thee ever cite sources.

[-] Gladaed@feddit.org 28 points 2 days ago

Data is ugly.

Cost of merch going away from the whole pot instead of just merch earnings... Etc.

[-] k0e3@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

It's also not really a guide.

I makes perfect sense from a P&L perspective. You have your revenues on the left and then your expenses on the right.

I guess I’m confused what makes it ugly?

[-] Gladaed@feddit.org -2 points 2 days ago

Because you have 2 somewhat independent revenue streams

[-] ramble81@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago

But those merch sales then get divided up among income for all of the other groups… Performers, venue, etc.

[-] 4am@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Are they confused because the label for total revenue looks like it’s splitting the bar for total revenue? Merch is combining with ticket sales, but the transparency of the label box makes it look (at a quick glance) that the total revenue bar is split - it is not, in fact. Just hard to see through the white box.

[-] BCsven@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

I mean yes. You can have mercy sales not related to the actual venue, and costs of merch get paid out to manufacturers and the merch csn fund the rest of thr empire.

[-] suff@piefed.social 4 points 2 days ago

Had the same thought. But how would you then include the total revenue?

[-] gusgalarnyk@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

This is way better, thank you.

[-] Egonallanon@feddit.uk 13 points 2 days ago

Thought merch would be much bigger proportion of total revenue tbh.

[-] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 3 points 1 day ago

Merch is more profitable, but only a small subset of patrons.

[-] Gobbel2000@programming.dev 7 points 2 days ago

Holy shit, stadiums are expensive.

[-] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Venue, FOH staff, maintenance, security, policing, Venue technical staff, etc.

And everything they do requires massive electricity bills.

[-] rbos@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago

Something off about the proportions. Like 1 billion should be half the size of 2 billion.

[-] apotheotic@beehaw.org 1 points 1 day ago
[-] athairmor@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Looks OK to me. It’s 1 billion to 2.5 billion. That .5 billion makes a big difference.

[-] lobut@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

I like the visual, although I'm dubious about the taxes :P
