Move sparks praise but chain says hotel independently operated and cancellations ‘not reflective of Hilton values’

I thought official press statements were supposed to cast the brand in a good light.

“Hilton’s position is clear: Our properties are open to everyone and we do not tolerate any form of discrimination.”

Words just don't mean anything anymore, do they?

[-] Sconrad122@lemmy.world 31 points 3 months ago

We do not tolerate any form of discrimination apparently means We provide hospitality to the worst perpetrators of discrimination

[-] danc4498@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

We like money no matter how evil the source.

[-] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago

"We want everyone to know that we value profit so much over human life that we'd literally gleefully house the Gestapo if we could make a penny out of it." - Hilton Hotels

Psst, Hilton: it's ok to discriminate against fascists actively using your hotel as a base to violate the Constitution.

Psst, Hilton: it’s ok to discriminate against fascist

Might want to look up Conrad Hilton's political beliefs. Dude was blue blooded.

Lost a chance to lock in my business for life.

[-] can@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

But in a good light to who?

Us, the crowd that ended up finding the fediverse? No.

They are cozying up to another hotel owner.

I debated it, I really did.

If you can replace it with "him/her," then it's whom. If you can replace it with he/she, then it's who

So they are cool with nazi conventions and stuff? Yikes.

[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago

yeah I don't get how they thought that statement looks good for them

in any case, I'll start booking my business trips at a different hotel

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 31 points 3 months ago

“They have taken immediate action to resolve this matter and are contacting impacted guests to ensure they are accommodated,” Hilton’s spokesperson said. “Hilton’s position is clear: Our properties are open to everyone and we do not tolerate any form of discrimination.”

A physical manifestation of the Paradox of Tolerance. I wonder how many staff members of that hotel decided to quit suddenly.

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 9 points 3 months ago

decided to quit suddenly.

I dunno about quitting - it's not really the season for that - but I'll bet that Flu bug going around hit a bunch of them for a week or two.

[-] JensSpahnpasta@feddit.org 1 points 3 months ago

I wonder how many staff members of that hotel decided to quit suddenly

That might be your only option depending on your citizen status. You really do not want to be deported by ICE and ICE will totally deport that latin looking maid.

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 3 months ago

I wonder how many staff members are Hispanic immigrants. Is ICE just gonna save those for last because they're changing their sheets for them, and round them all up the morning before they move on to somewhere else?

[-] Vertelleus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 3 months ago

They backpetaled:

The company then pointed to a statement on Everspeak Hospitality’s website, saying this was the respective hotel. “Everpeak Hospitality has moved swiftly to address this matter as it was inconsistent with our policy of being a welcoming place for all. We are in touch with the impacted guests to ensure they are accommodated. We do not discriminate against any individuals or agencies and apologize to those impacted,” the statement said.

Phew, they almost had balls. That was a close one.

[-] ech@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago

Local management did. Corpos always go with the $$$.

[-] 3abas@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

They know most people don't read past headlines. They got the good headline.

[-] matlag@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 months ago

They should just behave like Trump's admin: making a statement while actually not doing anything to "accomodate the guests", keep taking their reservations and cancel them at the last minute again, for a different bullshit reason every time.

[-] floofloof@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

They still got disowned and dumped by Hilton corporate:

Hilton removing MN hotel that denied ICE bookings from its system

Corporate scumbags throwing the hotel owner under the bus so they can continue profiting from the Gestapo. How can a hotel full of ICE thugs be a welcoming place for all?

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

it was inconsistent with our policy of being a welcoming place for all

Where nazis are welcome, no one else is.

Trump challenging the constitution like a parent dealing with a misbehaving kid.

I really hope it was a last minute cancel like saw the guy walking in the door last minute

[-] Boiglenoight@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

“Oh heeeeeeeelllll no”

[-] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

This makes me wonder how much money a day our taxes are paying in hotel rooms for people who we have already paid for their offices/bases for them. Seems like a giant waste of money for areas that don't want them there.

[-] tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

That was a topic I saw going around before Trump's election, people had done some math for that. When he stays in places like Trump Tower and all the secret service etc do too we are paying millions of dollars in taxes to fund luxury vacations essentially, to people that are also getting paid for it by taxes.

[-] MantisToboggon@lemmy.world 0 points 3 months ago

I suspect that front office manager may have fucked up. Seems like a big decision that should be sent out through the gm or marketing.

I don’t understand why a corporate GM would be at an independently operated hotel. Marketing doesn’t need to be involved in canceling some reservations. ICE is just making a big deal out of this because they are little bitch babies. Get another hotel. Sleep in a barn. Jump off a cliff. Whatever.

[-] MantisToboggon@lemmy.world -1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Not a corporate gm. The property general manager. If you are denying the government lodging that's a big deal. They are owned by the everpeak resort group. They have there own layer of marketing and possibly a government relations person. Front office manager is usually a very limited scope.

[-] silvadinlabop@lemmy.cafe 3 points 3 months ago

I suppose. They (ICE) better get used to being canceled though.
