The literate women of the time dressed like westerners, though, which indicates a free and democratic society because i'm a ~~racist~~ western chauvinist

I have encountered a total of 0 people discussing Mosaddeq and the secular socialist revolution averted by the UK+US coup. There can be no discussion of Iran without acknowledging this.

Oh you like Mosadegh? Have you considered he's MOSSAD-degh?

Checkmate.

The CIA and MI5 trained the shah's SAVAK police force who then went on to torture and kill all the communists they could find

maybe-later-honey But honey, that would make us look like the bad guys! Can we pretend history started after 1953? We're trying to manufacture consent here not dissent.

Hey this is a different shah, this one could be woke. You don't know! Besides hes gotta do some feminism since he only has daughters, right?!?

I honestly dont know what way this will go, if anything will even happen. But I do find it depressing that Iranian opposition is so clearly organising around becoming an american client as their sole consistent principle.

Just as the US is declining, impeccable timing.

It's like doing the Ice Bucket Challenge now.

You know what makes this funny? You got libs being like 'revolution in Iran! Heck yeah!', and then they realize these protesters are pro-Israel and one thing I can give libs credit for is that at least (for the most part) they're not shilling for Israel any more, so it's gotta be an uncomfortable thing for them

Of course they do also lack awareness; otherwise they'd also have to consider they're talking about making Iran a monarchy

A few days ago I saw my social democrat friend happily sharing photographs of the rebels and I almost wanted to roll my eyes. I hate to state the obvious, but just because a government should be replaced does not automatically mean that the rebels are going to install a better one. I did not even know much about the rebellion, but my initial reaction was still one of caution rather than excitement.
