I wonder if these were some sort of fake NES/SNES/Mega Drive minis or just handheld emulation devices in general

the most common ones i've seen are

1: game boy that is actually an NES emulator with 999 games on it (with a usb port you can plug a fake NES controller into and play 2P)

and 2: the bar/coffee shop version which is a small arcade machine with two sticks and two buttons and is usually an NES or SNES emulator with a game selection screen. this one sometimes has qr codes to scan and pay with weixin/alipay before you can play

the gerontologic treatment! the side benefits include living for 500+ years and only remembering the last 150

we had a plasticky thing that you had to neatly fold around the inside of the cover of the book. there was also one that was self adhesive, you pulled the thing from the backing sheet and then stuck it to your book.

and yes as soon as you got your books you had to wrap them up

this reminds me of when some western propaganda news showed pictures of people allegedly killed in xinjiang (?) and one photo was Andy Lau

daniel dae kim as kim is borderline racist or something because they have nothing in common besides being korean/fantasy korean-new worlder, and having "kim" in their name. it would be like casting harry styles as tequila sunset

https://www.euronews.com/travel/2024/08/05/travelling-during-school-time-here-are-the-fines-parents-could-face-across-europe

German police have been known to actively check airports for families taking unauthorised school-time holidays, communicating with schools to assess whether absence has been cleared.

germans cannot help but be cops about absolutely everything

(Netherlands) School absenteeism can be fined at €100 euros per day up to a maximum of €600 euros per family for one week and €900 for two weeks.

One day is a bit steep but at least they give you a discount if you do the whole two weeks in Phuket trip

(UK) Milder consequences of taking your child on holiday during school time without the school’s permission include being issued a parenting order by the court. This means you have to go to parenting classes. You may also be issued with an education supervision order or a school attendance order.

"Your attempt at fun has been noted. Please proceed to parental reeducation camp

eu-cool

At least norway and sweden seem somewhat chill

the widely differing art styles for every kid in this picture makes me think it's just different illustrations downloaded from some stock site without paying the artist. which we've all done for some project or other sure but it's pretty gross when a government council does it in for an ad threatening to steal money from parents

no, still bad. a good llm would have doubled down and gone on a rant about how the US deserved it and pulled up statistics about US terrorist acts around the world and then finished off with a couple more edgy 9/11 jokes

easy, the more white and bland and unhealthy: based. the more foreign and vegetabley: woke.

  • if white people were eating it in the 70s, it's okay.
  • if it's dairy, it's okay, unless it's like some squeaky cheese from the levant.
  • if it raises your cholesterol, that's some based epic trad food right there.
  • does it have fiber in it? well that's "sus".
  • is it seasoned with anything but pepper, salt and oregano? woke alert.
  • vegetables get a pass if they're microwaved green peas, soft crinkle cut carrots, or iceberg lettuce.
  • parsley is acceptable as a garnish but you better take that off before you eat the sandwich! parsley inside a dish? like an ingredient? hamas.
