Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents ate at a Mexican restaurant in Minnesota on Wednesday, before arresting three of its employees who had just closed up the establishment for the evening.

The arrests happened in Willmar, which is about two hours from Minneapolis, where ICE and Border Patrol have ramped up activities.

On Thursday, The Minnesota Star Tribune reported:

An eyewitness who declined to give a name for fear of retribution, told the Minnesota Star Tribune that four ICE agents sat in a booth for a meal at El Tapatio a little before 3 p.m. Staff at the restaurant were frightened, said the eyewitness, who shared pictures from the restaurant as well as video of the arrest.

The arrest happened around 8:30 p.m. near a Lutheran church and Willmar Middle School as agents followed the workers after they closed up for the night. A handful of bystanders blew whistles and shouted at agents as they detained the people. “Would your mama be proud of you right now?” one of the bystanders asked.

The Star Tribune said the immigration status of the arrestees was unclear and added that the Department of Homeland Security did not respond to inquiries seeking information about the arrests.

In December, ICE agents in Brooklyn Park pretended to be customers at a coffee shop and lied to employees by telling them a car had been hit in the parking lot. When the workers went outside, one of them was arrested and whisked away.

Retail and restaurant employees should get to kill one customer a year, a point I will always stand by

This is like that Spy Kids director movie where Johnny Depp shoots a cook because he cooked Mexican food too good

This is such a funny way to say “Once Upon a Time in Mexico”

They're just mad because the people there had futures.

Welp that’s the whole story of everything this country has been and is building towards distilled into one moment.

Seeing Willmar called a “small town” made me do a double take. It could easily be like the 20th biggest city outside the Twin Cities metro in Minnesota. Sorry to be pedantic that was just amusing to me.

Looking at it I might call it just "town". But small town seems fine too

Makes me wonder what people would call the place I’m from.

Anything 2-5000 people is loosely called a township where I live. Anything under that is a ghost town.

You'd call a place with like 2 people a township?

Anything under that is a ghost town.

Yeah Baldin has a thriving two person population but right next door in Maldin there's just Steve, has the whole dead town all to hisself; they say at night you can sometimes hear the other person who also used to live there back when it was also a thriving, jumping place

Over 20,000? That’s a thriving metropolis to me

And it’s right by the capital of Uruguay!

"If you let me leave, I'll let you have the antidote"

Probably won't work every time but should probably work at least some of the time
