You actually have to do this if you're not paid well. Seriously. Do not give them everything you have.

If we have to live in a late stage capitalist corporatocracy, then force your employers to live by their own words.

You get what you fuckin pay for.

Even if you are paid well you should still do this.

You will at some point be expected to crunch and when you do - you best be able to give another 10% to look good enough to keep your head off the block. That isn't happening if you're already giving 100%

If you work 100% effort 100% of the time then you will burn out. That is a fact.

This hits so hard. ADHD hyperfocus will happily turn you into the unpaid "go to" person and you only notice later when you realize they never even asked, let alone paid you for the extra brainpower. I get angry just thinking about how much free labor our brains give away.

Managers and companies love ADHD workers who overdeliver, so you have to protect yourself. Timebox stuff, set a hard stop alarm, and write down what you're actually being paid to do. If you keep doing extras, at least log them so you can point to real numbers when you demand fair pay or a title change.

Also, stop feeling guilty for chilling. Your brain is not a productivity factory, it's a person with limits. Take the break.

Meh, it tends to even out with all the nonproductive hours the other half of the time where you do 20min worth of work in 3 hours because the task is not interesting.

Sometimes it's the other way around so it evens out

I'm equal parts thankful/horrified that they gave me an office.

Pros: I can play Luanti at work >:) Cons: I have to remember to work :(

Folks in your IT department: "Did you see sammy's new high score?"

[-] Boppel@feddit.org 17 points 2 days ago

Ever find yourself chilling at work and be like "they pay me too much for this"

Its been a while but the post-covid/pre AI boom was a nice break from the hustle, and people were still more productive than they were previously

More like knowing my focus will drain my energy and I need that to function outside if work to.

[-] MalReynolds@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 days ago

You should. Equal pay for equal work. How much is you boss working, getting paid? Their boss,...

I use a productivity timer to slow me down and remind me to take breaks.

Thankfully, I do have a job where I get paid more when I work harder.
