Fun to know others are also playing GTA 4 right now, for some reason I started it up as a perfect nostalgia/comfort game (until Project: Gorgon took over my life)
I just love the game as a time capsule. At first I was kind of disoriented by all the chirpy Nokia ringtones you hear while walking on the street

or maybe im confusing it with san andreas. i do remember doing a couple of them because there was supposed to be like permanent buffs to health for the nurse or some shit?
Of the five women who Niko can date over the course of GTA IV, two like being taken to the strip club. The one you're probably thinking of is Alex, who has a blog about her sex life. She'll actually comment on some of the places you take her to in her blog which is a cool detail. GTA IV also has perks you can unlock by dating the three optional girlfriends. Alex can give you a 50% discount in all of the game's clothing stores (honestly pointless), Carmen is supposed to be able to restore your health if you call her but it just doesn't seem to work in my game and Kiki can get rid of your wanted level.
All of the friends also had unlocks. In this current playthrough I've had fun with Dwayne's Backup perk after I discovered it also works in story missions. In the big bank heist mission I had two random gangsta dudes with Mac-10s tag along as Niko and the others, looking like Payday characters, fought their way from the bank to the subway and back to the streets again 
Feels like the sort of thing Rockstar wouldn't allow in any of their more modern games
damn i need to play through that again and just do all the weird side shit.
i remember IV being more grey-skied and grim in aesthetic and story compared to V, but also had a few realism details they took out of V, like going through the windshield if you collide too hard without a seatbelt. its been so long though. maybe ill develop a parasocial relationship with Roman and go bowling all the time instead of succunbing to the absolute bummer of a storyline.
and ill take that 50% clothing discount. i am a total clothes horse in games like that. gotta be G'd up from the feet up.
What makes the discount pointless is how little clothing items there are to buy and how much money you get. All Rockstar games have a problem with the player ending up with way too much money with nothing to spend it on but GTA IV has it especially bad. It's just clothes and guns, and you can carry so much ammo on you that you'll never run out on most of them. (I ended up tweaking some ini files to limit the maximum ammo capacity to just a few magazines on each gun to make the game more interesting). You can't buy cars and there's no car customisation outside of taking them to Pay N Spray for a random paintjob. The personal vehicle system (which just involves preventing vehicles from despawning by parking them in parking spots in front of your safehouses) is so undercooked I installed a trainer just so I could customise and spawn my vehicles back when I lost them
That more grounded tone is why I've always loved GTA IV. I love the vibes of the early game where you do jobs for Roman, Little Jacob and fairly low-level Russian mobsters while living in a shitty apartment
