Hey cool maybe they will be able to include a single Asian person in their sci fi universe thats main premise is that everyone's a mix of American and Chinese

[-] someone@hexbear.net 31 points 1 month ago

Also maybe they'll tone down the American Confederacy apologia.

There was a time about 12 years ago that I would have been very excited for this

How is Nathan Filion going to turn this into an opportunity to continue his obsession with doing copaganda?

Whedon isn’t involved in this revival

tight it might actually be good now

Huh. I don't know. I liked Firefly when I was a kid, but I don't know if this could capture the charm or get past the stench of Joss Whedon.

Yeah basically how I feel about any of the shows he directed, I've tried watching Buffy fairly recently and kept thinking about how Michelle Trachtenberg was never allowed to be left alone with him. He's right behind me isn't he.

Yeah some of that stuff I just can’t. I’ve got my problematic faves when it comes to art. But there’s something about those shows and his involvement that makes me not want to look at women with his camera if that makes sense it’s the specificity of it. Like it’s more “inhabitable” than just putting on an album made by a racist shit who accidentally shat out a banger. I don’t want to “inhabit” his brain by watching what he wanted me to see in other people.

Something about the visual media makes it different for me, it’s why I can’t do Woody Allen movies

I was wondering the same thing. Cautiously optimistic that the cast can take it in their own direction.

[-] GoodGuyWithACat@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

That's why animation is the best approach. It gives them opportunity to take it a different way.

[-] GoodGuyWithACat@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago

Probably the best way to include all the characters from the original show.

[-] Arahnya@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

except for ONE kitty-cri-screm

also a different one who can go into a hole and digh

[-] GoodGuyWithACat@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

Well it's much easier to recast for an animated show than live action.

I mean, if they wouldn’t watch Cowboy Bebop, which Firefly was inspired by… why would they watch a Firefly anime?

Watch Cowboy Bebop. Then watch Michiko & Hatchin, which isn’t the same thing, but same creators and same energy. Then watch the Firefly anime.

[-] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

What about Outlaw Star? That was good too

[-] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

As someone who loved Cowboy Beboo, Outlaw Star, and Firefly, I'm pretty excited for this. I like me my space westerns lol.

[-] Thordros@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

I can't wait for Adam Baldwin's ethics in smuggling journalism episode.

[-] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago

Honestly I had given up hope that I'd see it happen, I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic especially since it sounds like Whedon isn't involved but we'll see

I don't think there should be another series. The sad part of firefly is missed chance for a fun space western show that was as long as Buffy, with the various up and downs that entailed.

But they had a movie which was okay. It finished.

But now it's too idolized and ossified. Fans can't imagine the show growing organically over the seasons, like Spike didn't come into Buffy until season 2 and Angel left at the end of Season 3.

If they had to do another Firefly. It should be a prestige series by someone like Tony Gilroy set in universe but focused on other characters.

Like River is the captain with a different crew fighting the space fascism that has happened since Serenity.

Just do Andor again please.

I'm not saying everything needs to be the Weimar republic but the post alliance Confederacy/Federation whatever would be the Weimar republic.

I tried to enjoy firefly (like I enjoyed Whedon's shows buffy and angel) but it's basically wild west in space and.....I was never entertained by wild west fiction. I got a handful of episodes in, saw what the show's theme was and just noped out.

I do enjoy animated shows though, so maybe I'll enjoy an animated version.
