Critical support for America's efforts to reduce the number of functional THAAD batteries by feeding all the radars to Shahed drones.

[-] johncutting@hexbear.net 64 points 1 month ago

My government told me that drones keep blowing up his THAADs so I asked how many THAADs he has and he said he just goes to other bases and gets a new THAAD afterwards so I said it sounds like he's just feeding THAADs to drones and then his voters started crying.

Seems a bit late for that now.

Yeah, and if the original ones got destroyed, what makes them think these ones won't?

[-] Jabril@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago

I can only imagine they are thinking they can find an offramp to the war and then turn around to their allies to say "okay you need to buy all new everything from us because all your stuff got destroyed"

Who'd want to spend trillions to restock on equipment that was just proven to be a total battlefield failure?

US Military has entered the chat

I imagine that's the thinking, their problem is that they don't control escalation in this war. It's even worse than Ukraine because there the US could just bail and dump the whole thing on Europe. In this war, the US is directly involved and Iran has no reason to end it on American terms.

Yes they seem to be half baked on every front of this war

[-] ProgAimerGirl@hexbear.net 41 points 1 month ago

yesterday: 4 THAAD batteries have been disabled in the middle east. there are 4 remaining THAAD batteries in the world

today: US moving parts of THAAD system from south korea to middle east

tomorrow: 5 THAAD batteries have been disabled in the middle east. there are 3 remaining THAAD batteries in the world

[-] oliveoil@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

i-cant

Also, I thought 5 were already disabled?

[-] Hestia@hexbear.net 40 points 1 month ago

Our ATTACK will be SO BIG the world has NEVER SEEN SOMETHING LIKE IT!!!! *moves defense system across 3 oceans cuz all existing defense systems got destroyed in less than a week

Lol, but seriously, can this just go into a plane? Cuz if not how will it even arrive where its needed? (Kuwait I guess?)

[-] Euergetes@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago

they airlift THAAD systems. it takes a heap of large planes tho

[-] Scarry@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago

IIRC @MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net said it takes about 40-60 flights of those beeeg cargo planes for one full system

[-] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago

Only if they move the whole battery. Here, it looks like they're just moving the ammunition, none of the launchers, command and control, or the radar are being moved. That requires a lot less flights, just to move ammunition.

Offer the South Korean reunification and walk into Seoul.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Something this war made me think about was the common liberal statement that "North Korea has thousands of artillery pointing at Seoul and can obliterate it at any time".

Like, yeah they have thousands of artillery but it's not pointing at Seoul is it? It's gonna be pointing at the US base and strategic military positions.

They aren't just gonna kill civilians for the sake of it. But this is always how it's posed. It actually took this Iran war for me to notice this little bit of propaganda. I only realised it when the media presented the current missile strikes as attacks against regional countries when it's clearly obvious they're only attacking the US military positions in those countries and not the countries themselves.

[-] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 1 month ago

Also, it's a case of projection because as we see in Iran, attacking civilians is precisely what the empire is doing.

[-] Blakey@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

Yeah, like, even if they ultimately wanted to kill a bunch of S Koreans, they STILL wouldn't have their weapons pointed at Seoul because Seoul isn't a threat...

[-] cornishon@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 month ago

One word: projection.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
