Celebrate is not the right word. Trump is just the crash test dummy front man. The entire administration and republican party have lost their minds/shown their true colors. It's not time to celebrate. There's still a lot of work to be done.

I will however drink my best bottle of wine and reflect on the moment.

selfish ignorant people vote for selfish ignorant leaders.

  • George Carlin

The problem isn't the frontman. It's that over half of the voting population voted for him.

I will however drink my best bottle of wine and toast the moment.

That's called celebrating

Personally I’d like to see him live till 100 and watch his fat ass get dragged from courtroom to courtroom in a wheelchair with an oxygen hose up his nose.

[-] masterspace@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 month ago

I won't.

He was a predictable product of the American culture / political system. His death doesn't fix anything that caused him to rise.

Trump posting "good, I'm glad he's dead" about Mueller changed my view on this. Before, I would have said celebrating Trump's death would be encouraging some very problematic tendencies. That "the adult in the room" shouldn't be driven by spite. Now, I suppose my position is that I don't really think it's "wrong" to celebrate his death. By doing so, especially by doing so in his own words, we highlight just how toxic a force he was on the U.S. and on the rest of the world. Celebrating his death may well be one of the better acts of defiance against fascism and authoritarianism one can make. If celebrating Hitler's death isn't wrong, perhaps so isn't celebrating Trump's.

And yet, would a stabbing victim celebrate the moment the knife is removed from the wound? Surely that time is better spent staunching the bleeding and dressing the wound than rebuking the knife or the stabber.

So, I suppose my answer "I hope with discretion." I hope to be smart enough to be able to discern when and how to celebrate constructively and when and how is less helpful.

I'll be at house eating dorito when phone ring.

"Cheeto is kil"

"no"

A sensible chuckle, and then back to work isolating the United States and calling out the ongoing criminal behaviour of the rest of its government.

Trump's a symptom, the problem isn't going to magically go away. Though admittedly he's a very useful cult leader and his death will be helpful in fracturing their support.

I’m going to schedule an appointment with my physical therapist because all those high fives are gonna be hell on my hand, elbow, and shoulder.

[-] Hello_there@fedia.io 3 points 1 month ago

Taking a week off work. Make sign. Smile and wave at cars. "Trump is dead. Lol."

[-] Mr_Fish@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

When Charlie Kirk died my attitude was "I'm glad he's stopped doing what he was doing, but I'm sad that it took him dying for that to happen". My attitude with Trump will likely be similar.

Id probably go throughout my day with a big smile and say "fuck yeah!" to others smiling.

There's gonna be a few stops to pick up various supplies before an absolutely amazing dinner and smoke session with my wife.

[-] OriginEnergySux@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Honestly ill forget him pretty quickly. Life goes on and the gears still need turning.

[-] swordgeek@lemmy.ca -1 points 1 month ago

I will never celebrate the death of another human. Not even Trump.

I will be glad that the world just got better, and curious about whether the US fascists can find another mouthpiece so successful as he.

But his death isn't likely to change much in a party he rebuilt to venerate him.
