holding flashlight under face

Imagine a terrifying world where we are all ruled by monsters of every stripe. And not hot ones like werewolves, but instead decaying zombies and mummies who are both insensitive to, and actively benefit from the immense suffering they cause on a daily basis. The top echelon of society, filled with profit-seeking, bloodsucking vampires. And the worst of it is that they repeat on a daily basis that what they are doing is not only just, but there is no other possible way to do it.

Pretty spooky, right? What if I told you that this world... was our own?

Happy Halloween!

Friendly reminder: when commenting about a news event, especially something that just happened, please provide a source of some kind. While ideally this would be on nitter or archived, any source is preferable to none at all given.

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

Resources For Understanding The War

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.

Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.

Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.

Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.

On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Telegram Channels

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

Pro-Russian

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.

https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.

https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.

https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.

https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.

https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

Pro-Ukraine

Almost every Western media outlet.

I'd call this the full attack order.

https://streamable.com/o1ugzx

"Southern command units, this is the commander.

We are going on the offensive against Hamas and the terrorist organizations in the Gaza strip.

Our only goal: victory

No matter how long the fight takes and no matter how hard it will be, there is no other result than victory.

We will fight professionally, powerfully and according to the principles of the defense forces that we were brought up on and in their forefront; being determined to achieve the mission, and constant striving for victory.

We will fight in the alleys, the tunnels and wherever we need to. And we will strike this brutal enemy that we are facing.

My brothers in arms; the residents of Be'eri, Sderot, Nir Oz, Kfar Aza, the towns of the west of Negev, and with them all the people of Israel, are watching us now.

Like me, they trust you and believe in you. You are the victory generation.

This is the commander, move to achieve your missions, strike the enemy. The end."

NY cops are going to be happy. They're going to get a lot of ez overtime.

In New York, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday up to $75 million in grants for local police departments and houses of worship in response to an uptick in reported antisemitic attacks and hate crimes against Palestinians in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war.

Argentinian media is ridiculously pro-israel and, therefore, pro-genocide. When Hamas launched their attack on Oct. 7th, they didn't stop talking about the plight of israel and how hard life is thanks to "these butchers and terrorists". But as soon as the propaganda ran dry and as israel intensified it's bombing campaign (Especially when they bombed the hospital in Gaza), they shifted away from the war. Now, as israel begins it's most savage genocidal stage, the media is pretty much silent. Maybe one or two articles talking about "US officials urging israel to be moderate" but that's it, no pictures of dead Gazan children, no reports from the thousands of people inside Gaza crying for help, barely one mention of the settler's actions in the West Bank, no reports of massive protests worldwide, nothing. It's just "israel bombs Hamas" and that's it.

Disgusting people. But be certain of something: When our time comes... you know the rest. We wont have mercy on those who enable, deny or whitewash this ongoing genocide. There's a special bullet, a special wall and a special pit for them. Be certain of that.

Honduras Recalls Its Ambassador to Israel for Consultations

"Depending on how the situation in Gaza evolves, the positions considered appropriate will be taken," said Foreign Minister, Enrique Reina.

The Government of Honduras recalled on Friday its ambassador to Israel for consultations due to the serious humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

"Given the serious humanitarian situation suffered by the Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip, the government of President @XiomaraCastroZ has decided to immediately recall Mr. Roberto Martinez, ambassador of the Republic of Honduras in Israel, to Tegucigalpa for consultations," the Honduran Foreign Minister, Enrique Reina posted on his X account.

The country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the "genocide and the serious situation of violence faced by the civilian population in Palestine, innocent victims of Israel's revenge against Hamas."

The foreign minister said Honduras urges a ceasefire to be decreed in the Gaza Strip and the possibility of a humanitarian corridor be allowed and that peace negotiations be initiated.

"Depending on how the situation in Gaza evolves, the positions considered appropriate will be taken," said Reina.

Other countries in the region, including Chile and Colombia, have also recently announced the measure of recalling their ambassadors for consultations, while Bolivia broke off diplomatic relations with Tel Aviv.

According to the latest figures released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 9,000 people have been killed and 25,000 injured in Gaza since the current conflict between Israel and the Hamas organization began on October 7.

The newschads now have the most commented threads on Hexbear - in first, second, and third place. Congratulations to us, but infinitely more congratulations to the brave Palestinian resistance who is opposing the genocidal Zionist entity who has murdered thousands of innocent civilians in their impotent rage.

The Country of the Week is Lebanon!

As mentioned in the preamble, feel free to post or recommend any material related to Lebanon, whether from a thousand years ago or yesterday. You can post it anywhere in the thread, but you can also reply to this comment if you wish.

If you're feeling particularly ambitious and want homework, you could take on any or all of these questions (no reward, but I'll be very proud of you):

  • Who are the main political actors? Are they compradors, nationalists, international socialists, something else?
  • What are the most salient domestic political issues; those issues that repeatedly shape elections over the last 10, 20 years. Every country has its quirks that complicate analysis - for example, Brexit in the UK.
  • What is the country's history? You don't have to go back a thousand years if that's not relevant, and I'm counting "history" as basically anything that has happened over a year ago.
  • What factions exist, historically and currently? If there is an electoral system, what are the major parties and their demographic bases? Are there any minor parties with large amounts of influence? Independence movements? Religious groups?
  • How socially progressive or conservative are they? Is there equality for different ethnic groups, or are some persecuted? Do they have LGBTQIA+ rights? Have they improved over time, or gotten worse?
  • What role do foreign powers play in the country’s politics and economy? Is there a particular country nearby or far away that is nearly inseparable from them, for good or bad reasons? Is their trade dominated by exports/imports to one place? Are they exploited, exploiters, or something in between?
  • If applicable, what is the influence of former colonial relationships on the modern economy and politics?
  • Is the country generally stable? Do you think there will be a coup at some point in the future, and if so, what faction might replace them?

Last week's country was Palestine.

How many times is Israel going to bomb and then double tap then triple tap refugee camps in Gaza?

Gaza ministry says more than 30 killed in Israeli bombing of Maghazi refugee camp

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza says more than 30 people were killed in an Israeli bombing of the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza late on Saturday, Agence France-Presse reports.

“More than 30 [dead] arrived at al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al-Balah in the massacre committed by the occupation in al-Maghazi camp in the central Gaza Strip,” a health ministry spokesperson, Ashraf Al-Qudra, said in a statement.

The Palestinian news agency Wafa earlier said 51 Palestinians had been killed and scores wounded in the bombardment.

Hamas said in a statement posted on Telegram that Israel had “directly” bombed citizens’ homes, adding that most of the dead were women and children.

“An Israeli air strike targeted my neighbours’ house in al-Maghazi camp, my house next door partially collapsed,” said Mohammed Alaloul, 37, a journalist working for the Turkish Anadolu Agency.

Alaloul told AFP his 13-year-old son, Ahmed, and his four-year-old son, Qais, were killed in the attack, along with his brother. His wife, mother and two other children were injured.

An Israeli military spokesperson said it was looking into whether the Israel Defence Forces had been operating in the area at the time of the bombing.

War doom scrolling is making me an insane person so I'll share some non-war news.

There was a spider next to my PC. It must have sat there for at least 36 hours. Then it moved ~6 inches and it stopped moving again for another ~12 hours. I wondered if the little guy was dying of thirst so I carefully put some water on the floor next to him. The last time I did this - I gave water to a dead spider.

But this time was different. A few minutes later his legs were in the water and it seemed he was actually taking a drink. I couldn't see much but his mouth part legs (whatever they're called) were moving. It had been a couple hours and he'd only moved a few inches. I touched him gentlely with a piece of paper and he ran around in a panic. I guess he's okay.

Ninja edit: There's a tiny insect moving around him. An ant? C'mon, spidey - it's snack time.

Summary: lie, lie, lie, human shields, tragedy of war, lie, lie, lie, protection of innocent life, respect human life, lie, lie, lie, limit civilian casualties, minimize civilian harm, lie, lie, lie, etc.

What the United States has said so far about the strike at a refugee camp in northern Gaza

Several United States officials are saying Israel is not targeting civilians and is working to minimize harm to people in Gaza, despite a massive explosion Tuesday at the Jabalya refugee camp that has resulted in many casualties.

Lt. Col. Richard Hecht of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told CNN that the airstrike was targeting a Hamas commander, whom he accused of “hiding, as they do, behind civilians.” Civilian deaths, Hecht also said, are “the tragedy of war.”

Hamas however has strongly denied the presence of one of its leaders in camp, Hazem Qassem, a spokesperson for the group said in a statement Tuesday.

Pentagon spokesperson Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said Tuesday that the Israeli military is not “deliberately targeting civilians, unlike Hamas."

Ryder said he could not “speak to individual Israeli strikes” but said the Pentagon does “care about civilian casualties, and we’ve made it both clear publicly and privately about our concern for the protection of innocent life and the respect for the law of war.”

The White House said it has seen “indications” that Israel is trying to protect civilians. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby called the deaths as a result of the strike on the Jabalya refugee camp “all tragedies” and said the US would “continue to work with the Israelis about the need to respect human life, and to try to limit civilian casualties.”

Asked if he would go as far as to say that Israel is not successfully minimizing civilian casualties in Gaza, Kirby replied: “It's obvious to us that they are trying to minimize [civilian casualties]."

Meanwhile, the State Department would not comment on the Israeli strike on the Jabalya refugee camp except to say generally that the US has said to Israel that they must minimize civilian harm.

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller would not comment on whether or not the US has laid down any “red lines” for Israel or whether the US would accept the killing of a Hamas commander in a civilian area as justification for the deaths of scores of civilian casualties.
