Do what now? What’s wrong with Hanes and fruit of the loom? This is not something I knew people had strong opinions on.

This is the only article of clothing I’m passionate about. I’ve bought things thinking they’d change my life before, none ever panned out. Saxx or an equivalent like b3neath seriously reduced my swamp ass, bat wing, and just generally made me a nicer person. People think I’m happy at work now.

[-] lumberjacked@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Maybe that's the difference. I sweat like crazy out my feet, like soaking socks, but my tush is usually pretty dry. I'm extremely picky about my socks (I like Darn Tough).

[-] MrMamiya@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

Darn tough are great socks. I’m working on getting a collection through holiday gifts. I wear steel toes at work so I’m always rocking the crew socks on the way in, mostly dickies and carhartt. Can definitely tell the difference when I have a wool sock on. LL Bean makes a decent wool sock as well.

I don't know if I've ever worn their underwear but their t shirts are fucking garbage, super thin material and they shrink badly. I've been buying Kirkland brand undershirts and undies at Costco for years now and they're high quality at a good price. Apart from that, everything I typically see is cheap junk or Uber expensive designer junk of questionable quality.

[-] Derproid@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Fucking calvin klein microfiber boxers made me a changed man. Expensive shit though.

[-] snowe@programming.dev 0 points 1 year ago

Dude, they’re good for a few years and then they just start falling apart. 2undr is way better. I had like 10 pairs of CK underwear and they all started falling apart at the same time. I had happened to buy the 2undr about a year before or something like that and they’ve been going strong for like 7 years now. They’re also way more fucking comfortable.

[-] Derproid@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Oh shit, I've owned them for less than a year now so haven't seen that yet. Thanks for the heads up will check them out.

[-] snowe@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago

yeah the CK underwear is good while it lasts, I loved them a ton, then they just started falling apart. I was really disappointed, especially with how much they cost. I am just waiting for the last few pairs of CK I have to get holes in them then I'll be completely switched to 2undr. I haven't had a single pair of 2undr get holes in them and I've owned several pairs for longer than some pairs of CK underwear.

[-] spacedancer@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Yeah, Fruit of the Loom has been my best purchase for underwear so far.

[-] SeeJayEmm@lemmy.procrastinati.org 28 points 1 year ago

This feels like a thinly veiled advert, where I'm made to question my choices and then someone else in the comments talks about how awesome is.

[-] sorrybookbroke@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

Ha ha, yeah, but have you ever heard of the ball hammock by verse group? It's like a tropi-ball breeze

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 24 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

IDK what a step up would be. It's underwear. As long as it doesn't chaff or crush my nuts or constantly ride up my crack, I'm happy. And since these also tend to be the cheapest brands with the most "bang for your buck," I buy them. The only time I really changed underwear was discovering boxer briefs. Briefs chaff, boxers bunch up so I hated both. But boxer briefs are the middle ground that is perfection.

[-] rich8n@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I had a drawerful of FoTL boxer briefs in various colors that I bought in various quantities from the late 90's to the mid-2010's, replacing worn out ones as I went. In 2021, my wife bought me a pair of Duluth Trading Buck Naked boxer briefs for Christmas. After wearing them a few times, I dumped all my FoTL and bought 3 dozen pairs of Duluth, mostly Buck Naked but a few Armachillo as well. Best decision ever.

[-] Curious_Canid@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

I'm with you. After more than five decades of wearing generic briefs I tried a pair of Buck Naked boxer briefs. They are more expensive, but the comfort is easily worth it. They also seem to last a lot better than what I'd been buying.

[-] jeffw@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Love my Armachillo!!! So expensive, so I don’t have a ton of Duluth stuff

[-] orangeNgreen@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

When my girlfriend (now wife) started buying me nicer underwear with the strong suggestion she no longer wanted me to wear Hanes.

[-] mauns@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I have recently tried bamboo underwear and I will not buy different anymore

[-] JimmyDean@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Those brands make more than only one style, so I'll just go over the ones I've worn.

Kid: basic tighty whiteys, not like I had a choice tho

Youth: only ever wore the loose plaid style boxers

Adult: started wearing standard boxer briefs

More recently: got some briefs that are slimmer than the standard ones, they help keep cool better in the summer heat.

[-] kill_dash_nine@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

I think we might be the same person.

[-] saigot@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago

I got gifted a meundies subscription and I am quite in love. Very comfy, very long lasting, fun designs, They are kinda pricey I guess, but underwear is a small part of my budget either way.

[-] lynny@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Never. They are cheap and work, and nicer underwear isn't so much nicer that it's worth the extra money. It's underwear, it's not like other people are going to see it.

[-] Emperor@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago

it’s not like other people are going to see it.

One can always dream.

[-] PixelProf@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

I know this post and comment might sound shilly but switching to more expensive microfibre underwear actually made a big impact on my life and motivated me to start buying better fitting and better material clothes.

I'd always bought cheap and thought anything else was silly. I was wrong. So much more comfortable, I haven't had a single pair even begin to wear down a little bit, less sweating and feel cleaner, fit better, and haven't been scrunchy or uncomfortable once compared to the daily issues of that cheap FotL life. This led to more expensive and longer lasting socks with textures I like better, better fitting shoes that survive more than one season.

It was spawned by some severe weight loss and a need to restock my wardrobe. My old underwear stuck around as backups to tell me I needed to do laundry, but going back to the old ones was bad enough that I stopped postponing laundry.

Basically, I really didn't appreciate how much I absolutely hated so many textures I was constantly in contact with until I tried alternative underwear and realized you don't have to just deal with that all the time.

[-] Nemo@midwest.social 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I actually switched to using exclusively store brands. Maybe you think that's a step down, though?

[-] ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago

Never heard of either of them...

[-] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Where you from, if I may ask? I've seen FOTL ads every place I've been. I figured their reach was global.

[-] ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 year ago
[-] CmdrShepard@lemmy.one 4 points 1 year ago

I think down there, Fruit of the Loom is called "Shrimp on the Barbie"

[-] ada@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 year ago

The irony being, we don't even call them shrimp. They're prawns :)

[-] outbound@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

I wear Haines X-Temp - boxers when I'm wearing loose shorts or sweatpants, boxer-briefs when I'm wearing more fitted trousers or snowboard gear or motocross gear. Both the boxers and boxer-briefs are very stretchy and comfortable, plus they don't hold sweat or chaffe when I'm exercising. My decisoin to wear Haines isn't a cost thing at all - its solely comfort and utility; and, frankly, I look really good in the boxer-briefs.

[-] Snassek@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I'm older and have tried several brands. I prefer Fruit of the loom. Don't care for any others including Hanes.

They are just comfortable.

[-] mdhughes@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Hanes is fine, I've got some others, nice ones for date nights, but they make no real difference to me. I've never bought Fruit of the Loom.

Jockeys are a little warmer which is important in the frozen-6-months northern wasteland, boxers are nice when it's warmer.

[-] uhauljoe@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I wear Fruit of the Loom hipsters (I'm a woman).

Personally I like them bc while the waistband has elastic in it and has stretch, it's not literally an elastic waistband like some underwear.

The material is really soft and comfortable to wear all day long.

I still have "other" undies for special occasions, but day to day I'll rock the hell out of some Fruit of the Loom granny panties. I'm married and my husband doesn't care what he pulls off me, so I'd rather be comfortable lol

[-] Trekman10@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Mid-teens? IDK I care more about fit and shape than brand. Boxer-briefs for life!

[-] yarn@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago

Fruit of the Loom is cheap. They have all the advanced underwear technology too. These are what I'm wearing now. They're that spandex crap or whatever that are tight against your leg so they don't clump up, they don't absorb a lot of moisture, and have thinly woven spots to increase ventilation. What else do you need in an underwear? Every other brand's version of that is like $20+ more expensive for no reason.

[-] krolden@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Fuck both of these companies. Their shit clothing is made in Haitian sweatshops with wages kept low by the USA state department.

[-] jerkjaguar@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Idk if it's an upgrade but I switched to Jockey. They are comfier but do not last that long.

The real upgrade is Bomba socks though. I'll ask for those every Christmas.
