Yesterday FM Araghchi confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz is "completely open" for "commercials vessels" so long as Israel stops attacking Lebanon.

Yesterday Iranian Parliament Speaker MB Ghalibaf said that Trump was lying about the conditions of the strait being opened.

Every time I've seen UNIFIL personnel attacked, it's been from the zionists. I have no reason to assume this incident is any different. They just murdered Indonesian personnel for god's sake

So it truly is market manipulation at this point.

I sure hope Iran isn't the recipient of another:

fell-for-it-again-award

Iranian reformists are in charge of these negotiations and they desperately want to normalize relations with the US-West.

Did you read the story? Irans terms were being violated both in Lebanon and with the blockade, and so they told the west to go fuck itself. Seems like the opposite of “falling for it”

Also here’s a statement from the security council which should put your mind at ease. Yes the reformists are sellout traitors and agrachi’s statement was wrong, but they’re not running the country. The IRGC navy has already fired on at least 2 boats today for attempting to pass, I see no signs of capitulation

Statement by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council:

– On the tenth day of the war, the Americans began sending messages and requests for a ceasefire and negotiations to end the war that they themselves had started.

– On the fortieth day of the war and with the official announcement of the U.S. President accepting Iran’s 10-point plan as the framework for negotiations to end the war, the Islamic Republic of Iran accepted these negotiations in Islamabad with the mediation of Pakistan.

– These negotiations lasted 21 hours without interruption, and the Iranian delegation raised and pursued the demands of the Iranian people with seriousness and initiative and maximum distrust in the United States.

– Despite agreeing to act within the framework of Iran’s 10-point plan, the enemy raised new and excessive demands during the negotiations, which were met with the Iranian delegation’s firm stance and the decision not to compromise on its positions in any way.

– For this reason, the first round of negotiations ended without a clear result, and its continuation was postponed until another time when the enemy stops being excessive and amends its demands in accordance with the realities on the ground.

– In recent days, with the presence of the Pakistani Field Marshal in Tehran as a mediator in the negotiations, new proposals have been raised by the Americans, which the Islamic Republic of Iran is considering and has not yet responded to.

– We announce that the Iranian negotiating team will not compromise, retreat, or tolerate anything, and will defend with all its might the interests and concerns of the Iranian nation.

– One of the preconditions for Iran's acceptance of the temporary ceasefire was the cessation of fire on all fronts, including Lebanon, which the Zionist enemy violated from the very beginning.

– At the insistence of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Zionist regime agreed to a ceasefire in Lebanon and it was decided that if the enemy observes the ceasefire on all fronts, the Strait of Hormuz would be temporarily and conditionally opened until the end of the ceasefire period, only for the passage of commercial ships but not military vessels or civilian vessels of the U.S. and Israel, with the control and permission of the Iranian armed forces and through the route determined by Iran.

– Considering that the majority of the equipment of the U.S. military bases in the Persian Gulf region is provided through the Strait of Hormuz, and this is a threat to the national security of Iran and the Persian Gulf region, Iran is determined to exercise supervision and control over traffic through the Strait of Hormuz until the war is permanently ended and a lasting peace is achieved in the entire region.

– This will be implemented by receiving complete information from passing vessels, issuing a certificate of passage in accordance with the announced regulations of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in accordance with war conditions, and paying a passage fee, and on the routes announced by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

– As long as there is a naval blockade, the Islamic Republic of Iran will consider it a violation of the ceasefire and will prevent the conditional and limited opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Just build the nuke like the hardliners insist, why keep dangling the HEU around as a bargaining chip? The Epstein coalition cannot be trusted for a second. These negotiations are for Trump to manipulate the markets and probably as a stall tactic to move more assets to the area, especially replenishing Israeli's interceptors. There is zero chance that the US will agree to any of Iran's main demands. Good thing the Iranian Military is still expecting the Epstein coalition to begin attacks again and are prepared. I don't know if the Pakistanis can be fully trusted, they are too close to the Saudi Snakes and have been one of the biggest Trump ass kissers.

Again, I’m not sure if we are reading the same news, they’re not bargaining with the uranium. The one talking uranium is trump and anything he says should be disregarded

“Spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry Esmail Baghaei said on Friday evening that the Lebanon ceasefire was pursued in line with the 8 April understanding, stressing that Iran’s commitments were "not new" and that commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz proceeded only “with Iran’s coordination” and along “designated routes.”

Speaking on state-run IRIB television, he explicitly warned that any US naval blockade constitutes a ceasefire violation, adding Iran “will take the necessary measures,” while emphasizing that “the opening or closing of the strait is determined on the ground, not on social media.”

He added that Iran is focused on ending the war entirely, not extending the ceasefire, and that Hormuz remains a central component of the talks, with transit managed by Iran’s armed forces. He stressed that negotiations now revolve around a single, integrated package that includes a complete end to the war across all fronts, lifting sanctions through a proposed plan, compensation for war damages, guarantees against renewed fighting, and arrangements related to the Strait of Hormuz, noting that “these elements cannot be separated.”

Crucially, he stated that “Iran’s enriched uranium will not be transferred anywhere under any circumstances,” clarifying that the idea of sending it to the United States (as Trump claimed) was never even on the table, dismissed claims of US-Iran direct contacts as false, and said Tehran remains firm, “not optimistic about the enemy,” and focused on securing its rights.””

I think they see their rockets and missiles and drones as making nukes redundant. The only advantage a nuke has is that its dirty, and will poison the land and people. They might not need to do that when they can just deplete interceptors and close the Strait.

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

the armchair generals want them to have a nuke because it would protect their sovereignty not because anyone is expecting them to use it on tel aviv or washington.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 week ago

It seems Iran has already asserted its sovereignty with rockets and missiles and drones.

I suppose another advantage of nukes is that imperialists respect them. They underestimated Iran and overestimated themselves, they thought conventional munitions were a solved problem and Iran was a paper tiger. If Iran had a nuke they'd have never made that mistake, they'd know to be afraid of the consequences and would have simply continued with purely economic warfare.

[-] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 week ago

Watch the attempt to frame this like its iran's fault no matter the usa's non compliance.
