How would the yanks even begin to cope with that? They've never suffered a defeat they couldn't pretend was a victory.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 45 points 3 days ago

My guess is that they'll say the death of Khomeini is the real victory and that the new regime is more friendly to the USA and doesn't want to pursue nuclear options, ofc all of this is a lie but like the hogs care.

My dumb anglo ass, thanks for correcting me.

[-] Saymaz@lemmygrad.ml 34 points 3 days ago

The same way they do with the Vietnam war. "We killed more Iranians than they killed Americans."

[-] PKMKII@hexbear.net 31 points 3 days ago

Vietnam? I mean, to an extent the neoliberal/neoconservative era in American politics has been a coping mechanism for losing that war.

[-] Carcharodonna@hexbear.net 26 points 3 days ago

Apparently with crappy Michael Bay films about downed pilots

[-] SuperZutsuki@hexbear.net 18 points 3 days ago

They will hail the opening of the strait as the complete and total defeat of Iran, who is now definitely our little vassal like SA and never talk about it again.

[-] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 5 points 3 days ago

Our vassal whom we pay passage tributes to.

Can’t speak for the media or Epstein class but as a non-brainwashed citizen, it would be nice to see our government be held accountable, even a little, just once. That’s a win for everyone.

K-D ratios (because war is like Team Slayer in HALO). The western approach to war is, "whoever inflicts the most suffering is the winner, and whoever suffers most is the loser." Expect to see people (shitty people, but we have plenty) genuinely point to stuff like the bombing of Minab Girl's Elementary school as a symbol of US victory.

You can relate this back to stuff like social darwinism / eugenic thinking being so ingrained in western culture.

Wait, you're telling me that the aggressor, who gambled and lost, could be forced into total surrender?? Mindblowing! wowee

The idea that the victor in a war has no obligation to make any concessions is suddenly an alien concept to the average American.

Sign the deal Donald, you absolute fuckin' loser.

[-] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 53 points 3 days ago

No no, sign the deal Donald, you genius and peacemaker

We have to be nice to him when he’s considering doing objectively good things that go against everything he and his cronies have wanted. He’s going to watch 9 hours of tv today where people call him a weak loser and then tomorrow morning he’s gonna bomb another school in Tehran to show he’s tough.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 20 points 3 days ago

That is very true.

[-] cornishon@lemmygrad.ml 30 points 3 days ago

And yet the only thing that Iran would be actually gaining from this deal is the toll booth. Everything else is just US ceasing to harass them.

[-] LENINSGHOSTFACEKILLA@hexbear.net 18 points 3 days ago

I mean, unfreezing billions is kind of gaining, but i'm with you

[-] cornishon@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 3 days ago

That was already their money.

[-] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

If someone mugs you and then later gives you your wallet back you didn’t gain anything

[-] Majestic@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 days ago

Which only exists as a reparations mechanism anyways as it’s the only practical way to get paid for the war damages.

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

they think we're an educated populace for some reason but at least they understand not to trust the US to pay reparations

[-] daniyeg@hexbear.net 33 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

this entire "deal" is an exercise for reframing facts for your political project, facts which have been presented differently to both sides. despite all the focus on hormuz, the biggest failure of this memorandum of understanding is that it's creating an intense 30-60 day window in which israelis and spiritually-financially israelis have massive incentives to sabotage any chance of lasting peace, while in the childish mind of the current US leadership who have no concept of a deterrent (or future really), the iranian leverage is gone.

the insistence on negotiation windows from iranian diplomats and mediators is just wishful thinking. that somehow the passage of time will make the US leadership realize their own situation, or something happens internally within iran to make them capitulate. both sides have been trapped in escalation traps, and while the iranian side prefers to de-escalate in order to reach a more predictable state, the US-israeli side favors stalling because they think their immense resources will in time erode the iranian ability to escalate. i do not know if scaffolding, fishing nets or individual cement bunkers will neutralize the drone threat in the short term, but it's crazy that millions of lives depend on a sundowning idiot not believing it.

im really not a political person, i don't know shit and im incapable of making serious analysis without made-it-the-fuck-up, it could be that trump is bored of iran (for now) and it could be that a deal has already been reached, it's just that the US side demanded something more quick to ease the oil market before the summer travel season and Hajj period starts. but i cannot see any possibility other than another start to the war.

i used to think venezuela, by capitulating so easily to US demands, have doomed the entire world to rapid and violent re-assertion of imperialist order by a declining empire, but now i realize it literally did not matter. these people are fascists, they do not care for truth until it kills them. they just keep going removed their way through until they either win, or are stopped.

[-] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 33 points 3 days ago

I genuinely feel we need to stop making fun of Trump about this so Iran gets the deal they need without Trump's ego making him do something awful; make fun of him AFTER the deal is finalized and Iran gets what they need; problem is libs would absolutely mock him because they either don't give a damn what happens to Iran or actually want Iran to be hurt

[-] SootySootySoot@hexbear.net 17 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

This peace deal could include

  • Us not keeping the stuff we stole
  • Us not ruining their ability travel
  • Us not actively invading them
  • Letting them control their own stuff

So unfair!!! peppino-angry

[-] DasRav@hexbear.net 17 points 3 days ago

I am sorry, but Trump said loudly that it's a great deal, so it is a great deal. that is the contract you all signed by taking the fucker seriously for even a second.

Oh he never said that? I think he did and I will not accept proof to the contrary. This is also part of the deal I just mentioned by the way. Welcome to post-fact-politics.
