In my case, in my self-loathing younger days, I answered the question "what do you want to be when you grow up?" with "I want to be a garbage collector."

Now, I'm collecting garbage, but because I want to apply the boy scout principle: leave the place cleaner than when you arrived.

I wanted to make games as a job.

The wish would be "I want to make videogames."

I now make games as a hobby/casual side thing alongside a regular job

(looks at state of gamedev industry)

... and it seems I dodged an entire drone strike with that one.

Good move. Nothing kills a passion like working in the industry.

I used to wish that I could be part of a loving family, who all cared for one another.

Well, I have that. It's currently a family of two, but that's enough.

Knowing you have enough is absolutely satisfying. Musk doesn't have it. Bezos doesn't. You do.

I wished that I could have every single video game ever made

With emulation it is possible to do that.

But you fall out of the video game hobby and you don’t find enjoyment out of playing.

This reads more like a traditional "monkey's paw" scenario though
