A bill that would allow cameras inside nursing homes is waiting for Arizona lawmakers in the senate to bring it for a debate and vote.

They're not allowed? That sucks.

I've worked in two facilities with autistic kids. And cameras are important when things go wrong in care facilities. I've seen people rightfully fired, and I was protected twice after accusations, because there was video of the incident.

I'm all for privacy in general. But in caregiving facilities, they are a necessary safety tool for both clients and staff.

If it has no connection to the internet with the option to opt out then fine. Also maintained by a unionised medical staff. The corpos create the problems just so they can solve the problems then they pull the "trust me bro"

with the option to opt out then fine.

you cannot opt out from being visible on camera. that answers the question to me.

Oh yah. Closed circuit only. No need for them to be online.

But what do you mean opt-out? That's not really a practical option. You can't have the cameras shut off while you're in the dayroom with everyone else.

Most of the large security camera companies these days, like Verkada, utilize IP cameras for a variety of reasons.

Having the whole system be onsite and closed circuit requires a lot more hardware and wiring. IP cameras used to be an almost unusable option, but nowadays with how much data is required by high quality video it’s a far more reasonable option. Not to mention latency has improved significantly, which used to be a big problem with IP cameras.

Verkada style IP camera systems are far easier to install as well, compared to hardwiring a CCTV throughout a huge facility.

It can certainly be “online” and still be highly secure. Most clients would prefer that option over a traditional system

At this point I was assuming closed circut were technically all IP cameras, just running on their own isolated network, one not accessible from the internet.

FWIW, All of my cameras are onsite and store video on the network. Most of the affordable options got replaced with cloud products because of enshitty reasons, but it can be done reasonably by companies as long as they have someone IT adjacent or have IT services than can do the initial setup (which they'd probably hire out anyway) and do minimal monitoring of the video server and handle backups.

Our political system is so busted that the people no longer have a say but if the price is right the politicians will throw the rules right out the window. We should also see what other local news channels are saying. I mean AARP whats their gain in all this.... 2 things "The lady doth protest too much, methinks" and Cui bono? Always wrapping themselves in the flag of something. I smell bullshit

I still don't know what you mean. Who is opting-out of what exactly?

The fascist marketers want to prey on grandma now. This woman is so wicked. Oh sure it starts off ok but eventually. You will see... you will get old and die... or maybe not getting old that is. Welcome to the new dark ages. We have no community, we have no family we are just cattle. They tell you work will set you free but the people in charge lie, cheat and steal. A candle burning from both ends. People should look at the bigger picture. Always running to or running from. Constipation and diarrhea. Too much and never enough. We need rich people to go to jail... not a police state for grandmal. We need more time with our elders or our higher needs community members. Anybody that advocates for cameras ran by private parties is a wolf in sheeps clothing or low IQ. The state preserves the state, the corpo preserves the corpo and you are a revenue stream. The corpos create the problems just so they can solve the problems then they pull the "trust me bro" as the politician or ceo shakin dat ass. Tell me what you want to hear baby. Spin doctors and "well intentioned" useful idiots. Healthcare workers need better pay. The pdfile corpo runs things into the ground and hires the desperate and unqualified. It is a cycle or a pattern that I have a hair trigger on. A game they play on well intentioned folks. We didn't get into this shitshow over night. Little by little they chip away until the boulder cracks. Then they swoop in to save the day. Then the cycle repeats. Shit they were on the pdfile island talking about scamming kids with activision games. It is the real deal baby. CLASS WAR and your children and elders are in the ironsights. Me I am self intersted since it is in your best intrest to do the right thing relative to your place in the hiearchy. Liberty and justice for all ya'll... hold them to account or dig in your heels until revolutionary potential boils over. ARghhhhh
