Very, very true. I love how Frakes has taken it as a point of pride that the opposite of 'jumping the shark' is 'growing a beard'.

I'd go with 2 Rikers. That's enough beard to show that he has more manliness than most people can handle, but not enough to show that even when he can't manscape, he still exudes more raw masculinity than the rest of the crew combined..

Frakes returned to film the second season with the intent of shaving it off, but Roddenberry insisted he keep it. Said it made him look "nautical".
