To be fair, I'm sure the Baltic states and other NATO members in eastern Europe are glad that Russia doesn't dare mess with them directly. The deterrence results in their safety.

You don't think that deterrence is free, do you?

Unfortunately it isn't. All that military hardware costs something.

NATO announces $1B fund to back startups supporting ~~'safety, freedom and human empowerment'~~ US neocolonialism.

Fixed that for them.

Wow, just out in public like that? A nuclear-armed transnational military that has engaged wars of aggression that had nothing to do with defense (Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya) just openly raised a venture fund backed by LPs to fund the creation of NGOs to carry out its military mission and extend its projection of power and influence? We've been saying for years that this is how the MIC and intelligence does it, then Snowden shows us that the CIA and NSA leverage market solutions to their espionage needs, and now we're at a point where fucking NATO thinks it's safe to raise and publicly announce a venture fund? Fuck, man, what stage of the dystopian cyberpunk transition are we in at this point?
