If text has been entered into the field when composing a comment, backing out should give some warning before what was written is deleted.

So far I like that it doesn't, but it should do it by default with an option not to.

Same with a warning to delete. Accidentally took down a post I made today. Seems t be a theme on lemmy though which is weird

I think this is more a client problem than a Lemmy problem.

Afaik, the deletion is an API call the client makes to Lemmy.

In the case of composing a comment, nothing has been sent to Lemmy until you hit post.

Very true, having the delete button bringing up the dialog with the final delete button which sends the call would be completely on the client, like liftoff.
