Holy hell, I didn't think it would ever happen! I wonder what new mechanics they can add that no one else has done.

For reference, World of Goo was released the year after the first ever iPhone. MySpace was the most popular social network at the time.

I'm sure the Devs will work something out. Tomorrow Corporation have been putting out bangers in between WoG 1 and 2 so I trust them completely.

Even their Experimental Gameplay games from before WoG and Tomorrow Corporation are worth playing if you can find them. That includes Tower of Goo of course but I remember there being a lot of fun ones back in the day.

[-] R00bot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 11 months ago

I've never played those, I'll have to look into them. Thanks for the suggestion :)

I haven't been paying attention apparently. I can only think of Little Inferno otherwise, and that was also ages ago.

They did Human Resource Machine, which is a pretty difficult low-level programming-based game, and 7 billion humans, which is a similar low-level programming-based game but incorporating multi-threading concepts.

Neither are super accessible if you're not into programming, but if you are into it they're both pretty awesome. I finished Human Resource Machine a few weeks ago and have made a start on 7 Billion Humans, so far so good.

I also played World of Goo and Little Inferno back on the Wii U lol. Very unique games with heaps of character.

I'm pretty sure they did the programming one as well, human resources machine. Fiendishly difficult that one was, didn't like the way it progressed

No word on platform availability but I’m nearly certain Linux will be one of the platforms.

[-] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 19 points 11 months ago

With their team record? All the platforms that allow them to publish the game.

[-] Wolfwood1@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

In the description of the video it says "Video edited with Kdenlive on Linux Mint.". With that info I'd say that Linux support is confirmed

[-] Toldry@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

I'm curious whether Android will be one of the platforms

[-] Sneptaur@pawb.social 1 points 11 months ago

I would be very surprised if it weren’t.

[-] stebo02@sopuli.xyz 31 points 11 months ago

this excites me more than the GTA 6 trailer

[-] 9cpluss@lemmy.world 30 points 11 months ago

Hell yeah, the first one came out around the time when indie games started to take off. Braid, Limbo, World of Goo, Super Meat Boy.

[-] janAkali@lemmy.one 30 points 11 months ago

I love every single game these guys make, but World of Goo is definitely in my top 10 games of all time.
I can't even believe they're making a sequel. It's the dream comes true.
Going to replay the original in 100th time.

[-] funnystuff97@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

Maybe it's just me, but I liked Little Inferno much better. But I'm still excited for World of Goo 2, very excited for what they're cooking.

[-] Instigate@aussie.zone 6 points 11 months ago

Little Inferno was a great concept, and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. At that time I had never even heard of a game like it! Of course the genre has definitely expanded since then, but I honestly think Little Inferno was more novel than World of Goo (although I absolutely loved WoG too!)

[-] Gork@lemm.ee 18 points 11 months ago

The soundtrack on the original game was so eerie but fit the atmosphere of the game so well.

[-] Chozo@kbin.social 14 points 11 months ago

I remember playing this on the Wii and trying to make the tallest tower I could. I really hope they bring back a similar feature, that was really fun.

[-] ours@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

It would be more of a callback than you realize. World of Goo started as a free prototype game Tower of Good where the goal was, yep, making the biggest tower of goo you could. It was very simple but fun.

[-] Lemonparty@lemm.ee 11 points 11 months ago

HELL YES LFG

[-] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

Oh wow I loved the first one!

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago

Oh wow, that takes me back...

[-] bloopernova@programming.dev 8 points 11 months ago

Do they say "2Goo4U"?

[-] datavoid@lemmy.ml 8 points 11 months ago

Random question - does anyone know where to find the original for android, WITHOUT involving fucking netflix?

[-] glitches_brew@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago

🏴‍☠️?

[-] XTornado@lemmy.ml 4 points 11 months ago

It was part of the Humble Bundle for Android 3. So if you have that or somebody has that they can give you the APK. That said it didn't have DRM so I expect the APK to be around if you want to pirate it.

The issue here would be that it might not be compatible withe current Android versions or Phones.

[-] Mickey@lemmy.ca 7 points 11 months ago

I’m so glad these will be another one! The first one was so great. I can’t wait to see what crazy things they think of for this one.

[-] Donjuanme@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

What the what???

I literally played some world of goo a couple months ago. I was so sad to see they'd taken down the community hight comparison feature. Fuck yes it's back!!

This is one I'll preorder
