I'm not convinced there is going to be that big of a upheaval. I feel like I'm seeing a similar pattern in reddit users as we have in Twitter users. Everyone's in an uproar over how bad it's getting and claims they're going to leave, but it seems as though most are still using reddit every single day regardless, going "Yeah, any minute. I'll show you. You'll see. Just wait until July. Yeah, that's when I'll do it. I'll fuckin' do it. Try me.", all the whole continuing to support the machine.

A lot of us have already cut ties and made the fediverse our new home, but for the masses it seems like it's just going to be business as usual, albeit somewhat begrudgingly from those who were scorned by the API changes.

I do hope I'm wrong.

I propose to make it a 3 day party. Only one rule: no poop

[-] Steeve@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Like that's ever gonna happen

I've heard that they're going to have fireworks shows all across Canada to celebrate.

The US will delay their fireworks shows until the 4th, presumably so that they can spend the previous three days not pooping.

Made my account yesterday, it's great here

[-] OsrsNeedsF2P@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 year ago

Do you guys not remember what happened two weeks ago? All the servers died

[-] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 5 points 1 year ago

And now the new servers can die!

I suggest we create a list of who is bringing what to the party, that way we'll know who's bringing what. I'll start

I will bring the f*ck /u/spez shot glasses!

It goes with this new platform .... it feels like 2005 all over again.

[-] Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 year ago

It's going to be interesting for sure

I primarily use Reddit via 3rd party app and when that breaks I'm not going to be using Reddit on my phone.

Hopefully 0.18.1 drops before the first and a lot of instances upgrade to it quickly otherwise a lot of people might just bounce off of here due to some apps not working properly.

[-] freebread@lemm.ee 11 points 1 year ago

Once Sync for Lemmy drops I'm full in on Lemmy. Haven't logged into Reddit since Day 1 of the protest but Jerboa hasn't been as easy to use as Sync.

I just deleted my Reddit account, definitely won’t be browsing on my phone anymore. It felt pretty bittersweet but also liberating.

[-] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Nice try, I already know that website so you're not fooling me!

Oh, lemming! Sorry, I misread.

[-] Foxfire@pawb.social 6 points 1 year ago

Lemmyparty.org, the premier website to see a single image of geriatric rodents having a good time.

[-] alphapro784@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

I clicked that link and thank God the server didn't respond. I was actually thinking that someone made the link to newcomers on July 1st not the stuff of nightmares that still haunts me to this day

Nice picture. Can use it for the 404 lol

[-] sauna7843@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

A LAN party on something like Minecraft would be great if you could somehow avoid trolls.

[-] kn0wmad1c@programming.dev 4 points 1 year ago

I have a feeling that most of the people who would have migrated to lemmy from reddit have already done it. July 1 will just be a send off.

[-] aceshigh@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

shall we roll out the red carpet then?

[-] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

I dunno. I plan to be active, and ready to guide the next wave towards an easy entry to the different culture where possible.

[-] See3D@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Its gonna be interesting to see. I subscribe to some smaller subreddits and I feel like a lot of the casual/ low key users are out of the loop. Either way, I plan to explore Lemmy more as I find new stuff.

[-] KreekyBonez@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I browsed /c/all for a couple weeks and picked up a few more subs with every pass. made a few guesses in the search bar, too, just to see if I could find some communities based on what I like discussing.

I subscribed to a ton of smaller ones, even without any content, just to see where they go. it's going to be an interesting ride.
