Yes.

It was in the mid 1970s, I was young, and my grandfather had just died about a week prior.

The telephone rang at my grandmother’s house, and it was always my job to race through the house like an idiot and be the first person to pick up the phone.

“Hello?” I said into the phone.

My grandmother and people who were there at the time, would always listen from wherever they were in the house to learn who was calling. My mother and my grandmother were just a few feet away from me.

“Jak?” It was my grandfather’s voice.

My blood ran cold.

“Pops?” I said into the receiver.

Everyone in the room stopped talking, and turned towards me.

“Jak, put your grand mother on the phone this is important”. My grandfather said to me on the phone.

I stood there with the phone pressed against my ear, not believing what I was hearing.

“Jak?” My grandfather’s voice said again.

My mother and grandmother could tell by the look on my face that I wasn’t kidding.

“Jak!?” Again, his voice, but a little further away.

“Pops?!” I said again.

“Jak?” I could tell by the way he was talking he couldn’t hear me. A second later, his voice faded, and there was a dial tone.

I have a bit of a mundane superpower. I have a higher than average propensity for streetlights to go out when I walk under them. Maybe it's something that happens often and other people simply don't notice it, but I've had several people say that it does seem to happen at an abnormally high rate with me when I've asked them about it.

[-] mars296@kbin.social 9 points 11 months ago

I think its common depending on the city. In university when I did a lot of walking at night with my friends, a streetlight would turn off at least every weekend. Now years later I'm living somewhere else I'm not walking around at night nearly as much but I do still notice it occasionally.

[-] rustyricotta@lemmy.ml 9 points 11 months ago

I have also felt like this my entire life. Rather than a superpower, I've always imagined that I'm haunted by some low-level evil spirit that only has power over street lamps.

My mother interferes with radio signals.

[-] yamanii@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Well, a streetlight never went out as I walked under it...

[-] Hikermick@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

I used to see streetlights go out when driving under them pretty frequently

[-] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 1 points 11 months ago

I used to think the same thing until I other people who also thought that.

Two years ago I was walking my dog at night on the same route I always take him, when a man appeared out of nowhere and said "Good evening". Scared the shit out of both me and the dog. He was a white guy, extremely tall and lanky, wearing a black suit. He tried to chat with me a bit about my dog and the whole time he had this giant, fucking creepy smile on his face that seemed inhuman. Like imagine the creepy smile from that Smile movie that came out last year.

Every fiber of my being was telling me to get the fuck away from this guy, and even the dog kept trying to pull me away. I rudely interrupted what he was saying and excused myself and walked away quickly. When I was a few feet away I turned around and he was gone.

I went back home and must've been white as a ghost because my boyfriend immediately asked what was wrong and I gave him the rundown. Just to be safe, we avoided that street from then on.

I know this story is super lame compared to some other experiences here, but it left a strong impression on me and I'm convinced that I came in contact with something otherworldly.

I am pretty sure I have seen some kind of variant of what is referred to by UFO/UAP enthusiasts as the TR-3B now two different times in my life, one time as I was walking at night in either late 2014 or early 2015, the other time as I was driving at night last winter ('22 - '23)

Both times: Dark, large, equilateral triangular craft with reddish orange lights emanating from near the tips of the triangle, a brighter white light emanating from the center. Just hovering. No discernable sound as if from a jet or helicopter or rocket.

The second time I saw such a thing I was driving over a highway overpass/bridge. It was much closer to the ground, to the point that I can point out on a map exactly which hangar of a nearby airport it seemed to be landing at. Also the red and green running lights were on. This second time that I was closer, I would estimate if you drew a line from the vertex of one point directly to where it intersects the opposing side perpendicularly, that measurement would be approximately 250 feet.

The TR 3b seems to be the most common name used to describe this kind of thing after 'black triangle', and it is thought to be either an Alien Replica Vehicle, or a non alien derived military/government extremely classified vehicle.

I remember reading I think on Wikipedia that the TR-3B was supposedly used to laser designate targets for the F-117 Nighthawk.

[-] vexikron@lemmy.zip 4 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Apparently the TR 3A, a much smaller craft that is also triangular, but to my knowledge does not hover, and is more or less was an experimental test in stealth capabilities using more advanced methods than the F 117, that is what was most likely used for that purpose.

Also known as THAP, the Northrop development name for it. Much smaller than the tr 3b, more conventional flight capabilities.

I was about 8 or 9 years old. Sitting in the bleachers at my older brother's baseball game. I was bored and daydreaming about: What if the batter hit a foul ball right into the light above the bleachers and smashed it to pieces. About 3 seconds later, that exact thing happened - exactly as I imagined it. I thought that was pretty weird.

[-] HubertManne@kbin.social 13 points 11 months ago

I have a sphere of banality that keeps that stuff from me.

[-] snooggums@kbin.social 10 points 11 months ago

Are the spell components logic and reason?

[-] HubertManne@kbin.social 7 points 11 months ago

pretty much.

I've never been really into believing entirely but I can suspend that belief for movies or to hear others stories but there was a series of events that happened when I was younger that gave me a scare. My grandmother passed when I was 10ish and it was a very difficult loss for the family. My aunt had been living with her at the time and the family didn't like her being alone especially with a baby in the house. We all took turns having sleep overs and such while cleaning out the place and everything. Fast forward a week and I'm staying over and she needs to run some errands leaving me alone. I wanted to make some chocolate milk but it was in the top of the cupboard so I went to grab a chair to climb up. As I come around the corner my heart sank and had a fear I'd never felt wash over me. In the middle of the counter was the powder. I could not explain how it could have happened everyone tells me it must have fallen and I just happened to land right way up and I didn't hear the metal container hit anything. As this fear is washing over me out of nowhere the dryer started which hadn't been touched any time recently as it's been about 30 minutes since my aunt took off and she hadn't been doing laundry. I finally gain composure and decide no chocolate milk and didn't bother putting it away as I wanted proof so I go over to the dryer and it does have clothes in it. Thinking back I wonder if a load may have finished but a sensor detected moisture. The last event (this all happened nearly simultaneously) was the phone in which was taken out of service a week prior began ringing. At the time I wasn't aware it had been taken out of service so I go to answer it and the caller ID was the houses phone number. Thinking nothing of it I answer and it immediately hangs up. When my aunt gets home the first thing I bring up is the phone which is when she tells me about it no longer being in service. At this point I ask to leave and go home. Obviously she asks why and I explain the events and I remember she helped calm me down but I don't remember how then she did bring me home. My mom years later told me my aunt was scared to go back and even had the same call I did.

I still can't explain any of it really and I'm not really a paranormal believer but even thinking back scares me a little.

Dryer could've been set to delayed start, but the powder is probably the strangest.
