I'll trade you one rice cooker cat for a bulldog that poops in front of the door after going for a long walk.

[-] Vorticity@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago

At least you don't have to carry the dog poop home!

[-] grysbok@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, but I bet the dumpster or poop bin is on the other side of the yard or parking lot.

A rice cooker takes like 20-30m, who's sleeping while they make rice?....

[-] yamdoot@lemm.ee 62 points 1 year ago

Some rice cooker has a built in schedular. You can program it to cook at certain time.

[-] 0xff@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

So is the rice soaking in water overnight?

[-] cordlesslamp@lemmy.today 27 points 1 year ago

You might want to sit down for this.

There are rice cookers that can weight the rice then add water themselves. You put the rice in and set the time, it will add water automatically when it's time to cook.

No, just water.

I'm in the market for a new rice cooker, and I never knew this existed, thanks

Zojirushi "the elephant brand", is a quite popular brand that has all sorts of functionality

[-] cordlesslamp@lemmy.today 3 points 1 year ago

Yo, you should look into Induction Rice Cooker, got one last month and it was a life changing for me.

[-] poppy@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

Soaking rice is often recommended! Even overnight. I’m too lazy for that but I soak mine for 30-60 min before cooking.

[-] Xanvial@lemmy.one 12 points 1 year ago

Why are you waiting the rice cooker to finish? it's usually automatically changed to warmer mode after the cooking is done.

[-] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 year ago

And let it burn to the bottom? Nah, as soon as I hear that click I'm Usain Bolt on my way to unplug that thing

[-] cordlesslamp@lemmy.today 7 points 1 year ago

Umm..... maybe get a better one that doesn't burn the bottom?

After decade of using the same $30 rice cooker, last month I grabbed an Induction Rice Cooker that's on sale for $119 (down from $199). It was LIFE CHANGING! Can't believe how awesome it is. It can cook rice, soup, porridge, steam, reheat, even bake cake. And it do ALL of that PERFECTLY without ever burning a thing.

[-] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

You're missing out on that good Tahdig.

[-] TheCookieButter@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

My cheap rice cooker burns it if I wait for the click. I set a timer on my watch for 12.5 minutes and haul-ass back to the kitchen to unplug it.

[-] Astroturfed@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Maybe my rice cooker isn't expensive enough. It's a mid range one that does a pretty good job, but if I leave it on warm for a long while after finishing the rice turns to shit. I buy more expensive/good rice and don't like it getting ruined.

[-] MajinBlayze@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

That's what happens to all the rice I cook too, but it takes a few hours.

[-] Gee2oo40@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Uncle Roger approves

[-] zephyreks@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

My rice cooker can hold stuff on warm for literally days...

A good Tiger/Cuckoo/Zojirushi should be able to do that no problem.

[-] Dax87@forum.stellarcastle.net 1 points 1 year ago

We have a zojirushi rice cooker and it never burns our rice.

Seems like a waste of energy.

I had a disabled cat (heart failure, nearly blind, digestive issues, and severe brain damage) who went absolutely bonkers for strawberries. He was always trying to steal them. He was never successful. One day I caved and gave him a slice of a strawberry. He sniffed it then left. The next time I ate strawberries he went right back to trying to steal them. He was such a little shithead, but was the best cat I've ever had.

[-] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago

It really shouldn't have taken you that long. You've got thumbs.

If you like this post, you gotta see the response post Straycatj made:

"I'm going to tell you about his wrongdoing again."

He opened the ice stocker of her refrigerator and let all ice cubes melted
↑it inundated the floor
He entered that stock space after she quit to make ices
He entered her towel box(example photo) and put black furs all the towels
↑ she needed to buy a new box with a lid
He threw away her kitchen cloth box when he climbed and entered the shelf
↑she needed to wash them again
↑ she needed to buy a new box with a lid
He opened the rice cooker before it started to cook so she couldn't have rice at the morning
He opened the rice cooker and ate rice
She needed to buy a new cooker with the side button
He ate rice in her lunch box
He ate mochi rice before she cook
He opened the package of pasta and ate them
He opened the package of lamen and ate them
He raids her every time while she's eating her favorite pudding
