The death of Zionism has just massively accelerated.

previous preamble

BRICS has expanded to include Ethiopia, Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Argentina is currently experiencing technical difficulties due to the election of the ancap clown Milei - once he's out of office, maybe they can try again.

I don't really have much to say about this one way or another. BRICS has, so far, made only nervous and small steps towards challenging US hegemony. This isn't really that unexpected, as only China and Russia are the real "true believers" in ending US hegemony (and even then, China's government either believes, or is pretending to believe, that reconciliation is still possible). Brazil, India, and South Africa are less enthralled by the concept of dethroning the US, most especially India, who had to make a firm decision in 2023 whether they were going to be on the side of America, or on the side of the Global South, and chose the former, strengthening their military relationship. They're still best of friends with Russia, but they are very obviously the sussy imposter of the BRICS group.

The prospects of BRICS are only really loosely correlated with the prospects of multipolarism, though. It's not a process that hinges on BRICS's successes or failures. It is coming because the contender states (in Desai's terminology) are irreversibly rising, and the US is irreversibly falling. If it will not be BRICS that leads, it will be a different organization. A better world is not only possible, but inevitable - unfortunately for the US.

I'm taking a week off the updates because I've been swamped lately, and also feel the need to reconfigure (and find new) sources. Needless to say that I've grown tired of Financial Times headlines, even if they do represent the actual views of the bourgeoisie.

In case you're wondering what those very special US military personnel that were photographed with Biden in Israel were doing, here are the first insights:

https://theintercept.com/2024/01/11/israel-air-force-targeting-intelligence/

TARGETING INTELLIGENCE — THE information used to conduct airstrikes and fire long-range artillery weapons — has played a central role in Israel’s siege of Gaza. A document obtained through the Freedom of Information Act suggests that the U.S. Air Force sent officers specializing in this exact form of intelligence to Israel in late November.

They did it again for fucks sake. Motherfuck Amerikkka man amerikkka

WASHINGTON/ADEN, Jan 13 (Reuters) - The United States carried out an additional strike against Yemen's Houthi forces on Friday, two officials told Reuters, after President Joe Biden's administration vowed to protect shipping in the Red Sea.

The latest strike, which one of the U.S. officials said targeted a radar site, came a day after dozens of U.S. and British strikes on the Iran-backed group's facilities.

The officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, did not provide more details. Radar infrastructure has been a key target in the U.S. military effort to halt Houthi attacks in the Red Sea.

remember all that stuff about how Russian nukes don't work? well, add another one to the "it's all projection" pile projection (archived)

The aging Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles that have formed the land-based leg of the nation's nuclear deterrent triad for half a century can no longer be upgraded and require costly replacements, Adm. Charles Richard, head of U.S. Strategic Command, said Tuesday.

"Let me be very clear: You cannot life-extend the Minuteman III [any longer]," he said of the 400 ICBMs that sit in underground silos across five states in the upper Midwest. "We can't do it at all. ... That thing is so old that, in some cases, the drawings don't exist anymore [to guide upgrades]," Richard said in a Zoom conference sponsored by the Defense Writers Group. Where the drawings do exist, "they're like six generations behind the industry standard," he said, adding that there are also no technicians who fully understand them. "They're not alive anymore."

I love using highly destructive weapons that I don't fully understand! this-is-fine Praise the Omnissiah!

these are apparently going to be replaced... starting in 2027. And here's a great bit about that:

The new missile to be phased in over a decade from the late 2020s are estimated over a fifty-year life cycle to cost around $86 billion.

On 14 December 2019, it was announced that Northrop Grumman had won the competition to build the future ICBM. Northrop won by default, as their bid was at the time the only bid left to be considered for the GBSD program (Boeing had dropped out of the bidding contest earlier in 2019). The US Air Force said: "The Air Force will proceed with an aggressive and effective sole-source negotiation." in reference to Northrop's bid.

You see, the free market ensures superior technology by letting different companies compete and thus allowing for the best solution to be picked! Except when, you know, there's only one competitor and they just win by default.

Australia outlaws Nazi salute and hate symbols

In a disingenuous attempt to equate Pro Palestinian as Nazis and use the state to clamp down on Pro Palestinian demonstrations.

The new law also bans the public display or trade in symbols associated with organisations that Australian designates as “terrorist,” such as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS), Hamas, Hezbollah, or the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

That means that the display of the Hamas flag is now banned, which cause legal complications for pro-Palestine groups and demonstrations

https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2024/01/your-man-in-the-hague-in-a-good-way/

Former UK ambassador Craig Murray attended the International Court of Justice yesterday on South Africa's genocide case against Israel:

selected excepts of the article by me

I have written of my faith in the International Court of Justice, in its history of impartial judgment and in its system of election by the UN General Assembly. The ICJ has rather unfairly been tarnished by the reputation of its much younger sister the International Criminal Court. The ICC is rightly derided as a western tool, but that really is not true of the ICJ. On Palestine alone, it has ruled that the Israeli “wall” in the West Bank is illegal and that Israel has no right of self-defence in the territory of which it is the occupying power. It ruled that the UK must decolonise the Chagos Islands, a cause close to my own heart...

The nomination of Aharon Barak as the Israeli judge on the International Court of Justice is extraordinary, given that as President of Israel’s Supreme Court he refused to implement the ICJ judgment on the illegality of the wall, stating that he knew the facts of the matter better than the ICJ.

Barak has an extremely long history of accepting all forms of repression of Palestinians by the Israeli Defence Force as legal for “national security”, and in particular has repeatedly refused to rule against the longstanding Israeli programme of demolitions of Palestinian homes as collective punishment. That reads across directly to the destruction of civilian infrastructure in Gaza now...By appointing his apparent opponent Barak to the ICJ, Netanyahu has exhibited typical cunning. If Barak rules against Israel, Netanyahu can claim his domestic opponents are traitors to national security. If Barak rules in favour of Israel, Netanyahu can claim Israeli liberals support the destruction of Gaza...

The legal team then led off with Dr. Adila Hassim. She outlined that Israel was in breach of the Genocide Convention Article II a), b), c) and d).

On a), killing of Palestinians, she outlined the simple facts without embellishment. 23,200 Palestinians were killed, 70% of them women and children. Over 7,000 were missing presumed dead under the rubble. Over 200 times, Israel had dropped 2,000lb bombs into the very residential areas in southern Gaza into which Palestinians had been ordered to evacuate.

60,000 people were seriously wounded. 355,000 homes had been damaged or destroyed. What could be observed was a substantial pattern of conduct indicating a genocidal intent...

What Ngcukaitobi did particularly well was emphasise the effective transmission of these genocidal ideas from senior government to the troops on the ground, who quoted the same phrases and genocidal ideas in filming themselves committing and justifying atrocities. He emphasises that the Israeli government had ignored its obligation to prevent and act against incitement to genocide in both official and popular culture...

Finally Lowe said that genocide is never justified. It is absolute, a crime in itself. No matter how appalling the atrocities committed by Hamas against Israel or Israeli citizens, a genocidal response was not appropriate and never could be.

South Africa’s case was founded on respect for international law and was based on law and on fact. They had taken the decision not to show the court atrocity videos and photos, of which there were many thousands. Their case was of law and fact, they did not need to introduce shock and emotion and turn the court into a theatre.

You would not think from the body language it was Israel that stands accused. In fact the only people in the court whose demeanour was particularly dodgy and guilty were the judges. They absolutely looked like they really did not want to be there. They seemed deeply uncomfortable, fidgeted and fumbled papers a lot, and seldom looked directly at the lawyers speaking

'It occurred to me that the people who really did not want to be in the Court at all were the judges, because it is, in fact, the judges and the Court itself on trial. The fact of genocide is incontrovertible and had been plainly set out. But several of the judges are desperate to find a way to please the USA and Israel and avoid countering the current zionist narrative, the adoption of which is necessary to keep your feet comfortably under the table of the elite.

'What counts more for them, personal comfort, the urgings of NATO, future wealthy sinecures? Are they prepared to ditch any real notion of international law for those things?

'That is the real question before the court.'

Russia Condemns British-US Attacks on Yemen

On Friday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova accused the United States of using United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions to increase geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

"We strongly condemn these irresponsible actions. A military escalation in the Red Sea region could lead to a destabilization of the situation throughout the Middle East," she said, recalling that Russia had previously denounced the United States using the Security Council's resolution 2722 to justify illegal actions.

"Our fears have been confirmed: the U.S. position on Red Sea shipping in the UNSC is just a pretext for a further escalation of tensions in the region," Zakharova stressed.

"They have long used absolutely unscrupulous methods, contrary to international law... The West has used perverse interpretations of UNSC decisions to unleash criminal actions in Iraq and Libya," she recalled.

China urges all sides in Yemen to prevent conflict expansion

China called on all sides on Friday to prevent the Yemen conflict from expanding, saying it is concerned about the escalation of tensions in the Red Sea.

"We urge the relevant parties to keep calm and exercise restraint to prevent the conflict from expanding," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said.

I hate men who say Asian women are easy. We are not. The women you see on social media that want only white men in Asia are club girls who are often drunk and very shallow. Sometimes you also see poor women who see white men as having lots of money. The rest of us do not want you if you approach us with your terrible fashion sense and bad body odor.

One of them approached me today and asked if I like white men. I told him no and he look like I just slapped him.

Bolivia is the first Latin American country to endorse South Africa’s ICJ case against Israel for genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

The Government of the Plurinational State of Bolivia appreciates the historic action taken by the Republic of South Africa, which filed a lawsuit on December 29, 2023 against the State of Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), regarding Israel's violations of its obligations under the Genocide Convention with the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

Bolivia, committed to peace and justice, signatory of the Genocide Convention, recognizes that South Africa took a historic step in the defense of the Palestinian people, a leadership and effort that should be accompanied by the international community that calls for respect for life (considering that the report prepared by the United Nations reports that more than 21,000 people have died since October 7, 2023, mostly children and women, accounting for the inhumane actions of the State of Israel).

It should be remembered that on November 17, Bolivia along with South Africa, Bangladesh, Comoros and Djibouti, filed with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) a request to investigate the situation in the State of Palestine.

Succession Saga: New King Sets Off Nationalist Craze In Denmark

Today in Denmark, the enigmatic kingdom at the windswept far northwestern corner of the Eurasian landmass, the baton of power was transferred from queen Margrethe 2. to her son and hand-picked successor crown prince Frederik, making him king Frederik 10. amidst a carefully staged display of adulation and subservience, perpetuating the enduring cult of personality enveloping the Danish monarchy.

The transition comes a mere two weeks after the now-retired queen Margrethe announced her impending abdication in her New year's speech, citing age and health reasons for her decision. Reports coming out of Denmark indicates several instances of citizens, brainwashed into fanatical loyalty by regime propaganda, literally weeping upon learning about the queen's impending abdication.

The formal transfer of power happened when the queen attended her last meeting of the nation's secretive Council of State and signed an instrument of abdication. Her abdication automatically made her son king without even the pretence of a democratic process. King Frederik, now at the helm, then allowed the incumbent government to continue its tenure under his reign.

Shortly after the newly minted monarch was to be showcased to the public. The square in front of the Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen was filled to the brim with fanatical flag-waving regime loyalists, many of them bringing their children to be brainwashed into the cult of personality. Some of the most fanatical royalists were wearing bizarre costumes ranging from king's costumes bought in toy stores to cardboard crowns from Burger King.

The king appeared on the balcony of the palace, wearing an admiral's uniform despite never having commanded any ship with more firepower than a yacht, together with strongman social democratic prime minister Mette Frederiksen to have his new fancy title proclaimed. Frederiksen, herself an ardent supporter of the monarchy and a fan of the royal family, was basking in the adulation of the masses, hoping some of the worship of the royals would rub off on her and her widely unpopular right-wing government. Butchering Danish grammar she said that the old queen "was abdicated" and formally announced the new king by shouting "Long live his majesty king Frederik the tenth!" at exactly three world corners, sparing herself the inconvenience of having to turn her back on the crowd and shout into the palace, as the crowd, seemingly swept up in the royal theatrics, erupted in cheers.

Frederik, lacking the eloquence of his mother, proceeded to address the crowd with the expected vacuity typical of Danish royals ending by revealing a boring an uninspired regnal motto that few of the assembled crowd will remember by this time next week. Then began a theatrical performance of royals entering and leaving the balcony to wave at their hysterically cheering supporters.

Following the ceremony Frederik departed the palace in a horse-drawn carriage accompanied by cavalry in uniforms as antiquated as the monarchy itself. Copenhagen was adorned with colossal billboards spewing monarchist propaganda, creating a nauseating atmosphere of sycophantic devotion as cheering crowds lined the streets to watch the carefully choreographed procession make it's way to the royal residence.

It has been impossible for independent sources to verify whether the cheers of the crowd were sincere or if they were coerced by the regime.

The pomp and circumstance of central Copenhagen stands in stark contrast to the deteriorating living conditions endured by Denmark's poorest citizens. Ravaged by unchecked inflation in essentials like food and energy, coupled with harsh neoliberal austerity measures, life has become harder in the Nordic country with food bank use at an all-time high. It is unlikely that the change in figure-head will bring any relief, as the regime is more intent on spending money on military buildup and anti-democratic pageantry than on helping it's own people.

In the weeks leading up to the transfer of power, Danish media has been overflowing with hagiographies for the departing queen and the monarchy. Parts of central Copenhagen were shut down to produce TV shows singing the praises of the royals, state media has been facilitating the writing of thousands of letters of gratitude from members of the public to the retiring queen and state media newscasts has been giving more prominence to reports on important topics like bakeries selling new cakes celebrating the incoming king over minutiae like the multiple escalations in the middle east. Any form of dissent or criticism of the monarchy has been excluded from national media who are instead pushing the narrative of a nation united in unquestioning support for their rulers.

Frederik, unlike his snobbish but cultured mother, the queen emeritus, boasts a rather pedestrian set of interests. Attending football matches, running and indulging in beer, rock music, and fast cars seem to be the zenith of his pursuits. His lackluster public speaking skills were glaringly exposed at a recent climate change event, where a softball question about what measures the monarchy was taking to reduce its own emissions left him fumbling for a coherent response, raising legitimate doubts among independent commentators about his suitability for the role of head of state.

Despite lacking any democratic legitimacy, the monarchy seemingly enjoys large public support with available polls claiming over 70% support for the monarchy and even higher personal approval ratings for the queen emeritus and the new king. It has not been documented whether respondents to these polls were able to speak freely or if they were fearing reprisals from the regime. The dusty and archaic constitution of Denmark grants the king the power to dismiss and appoint governments at will although the monarchy has decided to shy away from interfering with parliamentary politics since king Frederik's great grandfather Christian 10.'s ill-fated attempt to depose a parliamentary-backed government led to mass protests in Copenhagen during the Easter Crisis of 1920, imperiling the monarchy's very existence. Instead the monarchy exercises power behind the scenes by acting as gatekeepers for an exclusive network of the absolute elite of Denmark's business, government and culture.

My own summary and interpretation of Israel's arguments to the ICJ:

  1. Israelis are the real victims of genocide in this conflict, as is literally the only possible relation between genocide and Israel/Jews. I mean, we own the term after all. Source: Holocaust (duh!).
  2. There is no "dispute" between Israel and South Africa that the court can rule over, because that would require that we engage with them. We decided to instead use the get-out-of-jail-free-card of just ignoring them and continuing our genocide. Us doing genocide obviously doesn't mean we oppose South Africa's view that we should stop doing genocide. Therefore you can't do anything. Nah, nah, sorry!
  3. Pffffft! "Random quotes" of people like the Israeli Prime Minister, Secretary of Defense, and Knesset members mean nothing. Our highest authorities could literally say explicitly, "We intend to commit genocide and we are currently doing so," and have every IDF troop repeat this after them, and it doesn't matter because it's not "policy". (Also, freeze-peach )
  4. But KHamas/Hamas!!!! (Surprisingly, one or two of them actually pronounces it correctly.) Literally in every home and hospital, in every humanitarian zone and aid vehicle, and embedded in every facility of civilian infrastructure!
  5. We provide all the food, water, medicine, fuel, etc. that Gazans could possibly want, so they must just be refusing to eat. We're good daddies, but what'cha gonna do if the kids just won't eat?!
  6. How dare you imply we can't do as much war as we like under whatever conditions we like! If we can't blow people up, we'll literally all die. We are the Allies in WW2, Hamas are the Axis, and South Africa is some neutral third-party trying to get us to surrender to the Nazis and let them do their thing!
  7. Our ethnic cleansing is actually an anti-genocide measure!

TBH I can see the court doing the "procedural"/"technicality" thing and cowardly deciding that South Africa didn't jump through all the hoops necessary to bring the case (#2). Then they can just shrug and hold up their hands and go "doesn't really matter if they're really doing a genocide, sorry." It would be completely in line with how systemic racism generally pervades elite, liberal systems of injustice. Legalism is so fucking awesome!

Some extra thoughts:

  • Israel literally claimed to find a pistol in an incubator.
  • I wonder if their plan is to capture Hamas fighters and tie them to the nose cones of their missiles. Then there'd literally be Hamas anywhere they choose to strike! It's like the offensive equivalent of "human shields".
  • God, several of these people still wear the silly wigs along with all the ridiculous robes. I vote we start taking these stodgy idiots seriously no sooner than when they start dressing like normal people.

Presenter: let’s hope this sends the Houthi’s the message and they de-escalate… although I don’t think they will.

Presenter: Keith Stummer expresses his support for the necessary surgical strikes in Yemen although time will show if there are political divisions, much more likely among the Labour Party than the conservatives.

This shit is going to take at least 1-2 years to clean up, if not more. China can relax for the forseeable future they are not going to be the focus of anything at all.

And by the time the US has finished with this shit the window will be closed on their opportunity to do anything about rising China.

Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --
