This might sound crazy, but when the kids are asleep I hold the microwave door button in as I shut it. It's pretty darn quiet

Buy the thinnest adhesive weather stripping you can find, and stick a patch in the appropriate place between the door and latch area. That's the zone that makes the KERCHUNK.

If you yell the moment it closes you should effectively muffle the noise of it closing.

I also never understood why microwaves need to be so loud. My dishwasher, hell even my washing machine are very quiet in comparisson.

They need to dissipate a lot of waste heat from the magnetron and have to use a fan.

Those other appliances don’t generate a lot of heat in a small space that must be air cooled.

I think they mean when closing the door.

[-] FunkyMonk@kbin.social 19 points 11 months ago

and one with no beeping when I beep the buttons, fucking nazis and their narc microwaves.

[-] smort@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

On my Toshiba microwave, if I press “8” for a couple seconds, it turns off all the beeping

That was a huge selling point for me lol

My IKEA microwave has a settings menu where you can disable the bleeps, the sweeps, and the creeps.

That there can turn off the beeping. My wife made a note for me to remind me how.

LG is really trying to impress people with their inverters. I had to read the owners manual to figure out what the hell the inverter button was. It's just Defrost or Cook buttons with "inverter" in front of the names.

Irrelevant, but for those who care: LGs "smart inverter" just manages the temperature of the inverter circuit for efficiency. Cooler electronics are generally better.

Got this as a wedding gift over 3 years ago.

Absolutely love it and the door is self closing. You can slam it and it catches itself and shuts on its own. I assume that is what you mean.

[-] morphballganon@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Put an extra regular microwave in the garage/den/faraway room so the noise isn't an issue

[-] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 3 points 11 months ago

This one here. https://www.lg.com/au/microwave-ovens/lg-MJ3966ABS

The door opens from the top down and is opened and closed by hand without latches etc so its quiet.

And you can turn off the beep

Well because I've wrecked my sleep schedule and need a pick me up to finish the days chores I'm usually microwaving leftover coffee. I need help haha
