articles for windows problems: here's a virus, it'll fix everything. enjoy!

articles for mac problems: this software fixes your exact issue in 2 clicks but it costs $50 and will never be integrated into MacOS officially

articles for linux issues: you have to sift through forums still styled like it's 2005 but someone will post 3 lines of terminal commands that will either fix your issue or brick your system

nothing beats linux roulette

[-] narwhalperson@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 years ago

I remember once finding a blog post that solved my problem perfectly, then ran a fork bomb right when the problem was solved and crashed my system.

[-] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 29 points 2 years ago

2005 was the peak of web design.

[-] rab@lemmy.ca 17 points 2 years ago

Oh man that version of last.fm, absolutely glorious

Also 2007 Facebook you could customize your profile however, move shit around, add 3rd party widgets even

Good times

It really felt like the Internet belonged to the users. The difference was the freedom to make it yours.

[-] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 years ago

I would now like Lemmy to support MySpace style profiles for it’s users

[-] nik282000@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 years ago

In 2005 there were <1B users, today there are >5B. Most of those first billion were online because they WANTED to be online, they built personal websites, ran message boards and operated projects like Albinoblacksheep because they wanted to interact with other like minded nerds. Now most users are online because they have a phone, and phones are so limiting that all they can really do is scroll through feeds and 'share' links (try editing HTML on your phone some time).

Don't forget that at the end of the linux process you physically feel your brain growing new synapses, and from that moment on you want to cry when people struggle with the same issue because it's so obvious

[-] merthyr1831@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago

nothing gives me a feeling of power like fixing a problem on linux without having to immediately trawl through the arch wiki

[-] nik282000@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 years ago

I usually feel my brain loosing cells after a 6hr session of debugging a typo I made in a UUID.

[-] trimmerfrost@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

I had the best experience with Linux out of the three. Although it is technically heavy

Me: Googling solutions as to why I can't get RDR2 to start or GTA IV to not run like shit.

100 AI-written clickbait shit articles: lol have you tried SFC /scannow and fixing your clock.

[-] auhu@kbin.social 29 points 2 years ago

I was under the impression that getting GTA IV to not run like shit is impossible

[-] WrittenWeird@lemmy.world 18 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

In case it's helpful to someone, RDR2 wanted to access the save files in My Documents that OneDrive needed to be running to sync properly.

Got no idea on GTA IV though, dxvk and FusionFix have failed to help me so far.

[-] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 years ago

Sounds like you should uninstall OneDrive then

[-] RippleEffect@lemm.ee 15 points 2 years ago

How did that become such a popular recommendation?

[-] AnonTwo@kbin.social 45 points 2 years ago

Windows reps on the main support site replied with SFC /scannow to basically any topic they didn't know how to fix.

[-] scottywh@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

It does actually occasionally really fix some shit though.

[-] Deuces@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

If you can't open a Windows critical app like start or options or the task bar it's usually the answer. On very rare occasion it can help with peripherals, but it should always be accompanied by system updates and dism

Well wrong clock causes all kinds of problems. As a system administrator it is one of the first things to check. Computers love to be in sync

[-] WrittenWeird@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

LLMs probably amalgamating and spewing common elements of real articles for multiple titles.

[-] WtfEvenIsExistence@reddthat.com 6 points 2 years ago

sfc /scannow sometimes do fix some problems oddly enough

[-] Toad_the_Fungus@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

a little while ago i got rid of a recurring unexpected_store_exception bsod by repairing system files, but i had to use Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth in powershell because sfc /scannow wasnt able to repair the corrupted files by itself

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 years ago

Pretty sure rebooting is more likely to help

[-] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 years ago

sfc /scannow is to fix your Windows if it has corrupted files.

Rebooting doesn't, but it will reload all the files in your memory from scratch again, making it less prone to problems.

But if the problems are that the files itself are corrupted, then rebooting will not help.

Only authentic with a [Solved] and the year in the title, super dumb description and always the same solving-suggestions:

Bluescreen DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL -2023[Solved]

Why do I get this?
This bluescreen does appear to be either caused by software (Drivers, installed apps, Windows) or Hardware, like your RAM or your CPU.

How do I solve it?
Quick and easy solution:
Try this tool:
spam.shady.domain/infiltrator.exe?download_you_fucking_idiot

Other solutions
You might want to:

  1. reboot
  2. "Check if your drivers are up to date by running Windows update" (yeah... right... Windows Update and Drivers, shitheads...)
  3. sfc /scannow
  4. DISM
  5. Try the tool above
  6. About this tool we gave you... tried it yet?
[-] thedoginthewok@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Windows Update has been able to download drivers for several years now.

[-] Norgur@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

"able to", eh? More like "failing at"

[-] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

According to the Windows AMD GPU users, it's a bit too effective at downloading them.

Disclaimer: I don't run Windows much, so I have to go with what I see online.

[-] thedoginthewok@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

It mostly works ok, but sometimes it's really stupid and overwrites more current drivers with older ones, because the current ones aren't on Microsofts servers...

[-] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 years ago

Nah, they are usually hidden under optional updates though.

On the Microsoft Surface laptops, the entire driver update system is through Microsoft Update.

[-] argv_minus_one@beehaw.org 29 points 2 years ago

Search engines really need to step up their anti-spam game. These malware-pushing criminals do not belong in any reputable search index.

[-] solarzones@kbin.social 21 points 2 years ago

The amount of times I have seen these sites is crazy. Some of them link to CNET downloads or some other shady software site that's been online for years.

[-] cygnus@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 years ago

Very helpful resource, thanks for sharing!

[-] grysbok@lemmy.sdf.org 13 points 2 years ago

One of the most insightful things I've seen today.

[-] Drinvictus@discuss.tchncs.de 17 points 2 years ago

Download this totally free tool

Free tool literally after you boot it:

[-] Rodeo@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 years ago

You mean you actually downloaded it? Insanity

[-] Drinvictus@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 2 years ago

Desperate times man

[-] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

I do wonder what I've downloaded in the past that I blindly followed instructions from out of frustration

[-] dylanTheDeveloper@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago

No i wont download driver manager driver easy

[-] DirkMcCallahan@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

AMA request: Someone who's actually downloaded the helpful tool.

[-] Damage@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 years ago

Who you calling a helpful tool?!

[-] henfredemars@infosec.pub 1 points 2 years ago

Trouble is what happens if everyone who goes there never comes back?

[-] testuserpleaseupvote@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

Data recovery is particularly rife with this trope.

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 2 years ago

Especially egregious since the answer is always just testdisk or photorec if it's REALLY fucked, if that can't do it then you pay someone with a god damn cleanroom.

[-] Saturdaycat@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

One of my biggest pet peeves
