I'd live in the Dragon Ball universe because it reminds me of the wild west with lots of exploration, dinosaur ridin', wishing for underwear havin, fightin' bad guy hijinks. Until it moves to Z and then everyone keeps dying every like 10 years when a bad guy invades and blows the earth up.

Anime has taught me I just need to get hit by a truck to make this really happen

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 14 points 10 months ago

Then I get a harem of all the booba waifus! so-true

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 18 points 10 months ago

But I wanted a harem of exoskeleton and scale waifus

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 5 points 10 months ago

This sounds like one of those manga with the long ass names lol

Take me Truck-kun my body is ready, I’m tired of working my part time job in the excel mines and I always wanted a girlfriend with cow horns.

[-] Alisu@hexbear.net 6 points 10 months ago

Truck-kun doesn't like me enough for that

First choice is Kiki's Delivery Service for the food and very chill vibes.

If I could be a character with powers, the bullshit of the Nasuverse is very appealing to me (mystic eyes, noble phantasms, etc).

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 10 points 10 months ago

I gotta get into fate stay night, someone recommended it to me I forgot who.

[-] ChestRockwell@hexbear.net 10 points 10 months ago

Honestly, I'd recommend the Kara no Kyoukai movies for some peak Nasuverse. Ryougi, Touko, Kokutou, Azaka are amazing characters, and movie 3 is some of Yuki Kajiuras best work for music. The Kalafina songs are amazing too.

The full version of fate is on switch soon too, supposedly, I have no clue if they left the H scenes in tho. Though the writing for the H scenes is almost laughably bad if I remember right (I played the game almost 18 years ago).

Fate Zero very good too.

The Deen adaptation of fate route is v.bad. No comment on the later adaptations tho.

[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 9 points 10 months ago

I second Kara no Kyoukai.

It might not be for everyone, but honestly it's damn near my most favorite anime.

[-] ChestRockwell@hexbear.net 7 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

COOMMMRRAAADEEEE! (Imagine the BROOOOOTHERRRR from Toudou in JJK)

Seriously, love those movies.

I get tears every time during the showdown during Movie 3. Also, when Azaka fights the monster in Movie 6 is incredible animation, absolutely goated sequence (and the music my god).

fate is pretty cool. the vn is the way to go

[-] KnilAdlez@hexbear.net 21 points 10 months ago

Jojo. Easily. I need a stand immediately.

And to anyone saying that 99.9% of people in JoJo don't have a stand: that's cool but I'm built different

[-] Crowtee_Robot@hexbear.net 17 points 10 months ago

Hell yeah! Finally my own stand!

Takes the form of a meat backpack that's always whispering into my ear which form of liberalism I'm currently committing

Living in the Z world would be terrifying, remember Cell going around eating people with his tail? Buu? No thanks. Like you said, Pre-Z Dragon Ball would be a way nicer place to live.

I guess I'd live in the Pokemon world. Free healthcare and cute little monsters hanging around. I'd ressurect Team Plasma and free all the Pokemon, mwahaha.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 11 points 10 months ago

Pokemon would be nice, the way less chaotic option for sure. I always thought Gundam because of all the FALGSC tech but the universe is always at war.

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 6 points 10 months ago

The only good Gundam answer is SD Gundam Force or maybe one of the Gunpla shows lol

[-] ChestRockwell@hexbear.net 9 points 10 months ago

Yeah Gundam odds are you'd be victim of a war crime, sadly.

Unfortunately even Gunbuster, odds are you get eaten by a space monster. But at least Soviet Union is still around.

Jojo part 4 would be nice. I would eat at that fake ass italian guy's restaurant all day and get mega healthy.

[-] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 10 points 10 months ago

I think he's supposed to actually be from Italy, but traveling abroad to develop his culinary style.

Mushi-shi, flying witch, or one of the chill Miyazaki stories. I've had enough excitement, i just want to chill in the cake cafe run by a nice ghost and chat with witches and people from beyond the beyond.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 9 points 10 months ago

Sounds nice

[-] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 7 points 10 months ago

Yeah, something comfy with magic would be nice.

[-] red_stapler@hexbear.net 16 points 10 months ago

Oh that’s easy it’d be…. hold on, someone is at the door hentai-free volcel-judge SHIT THEY FOUND ME! flees thread.

[-] TerminalEncounter@hexbear.net 15 points 10 months ago

I wanna pick a slice of life anime, I was gonna say Lucky Star but that's only cause its the only one I know lmao. Just something low key and relaxing with very small stakes.

[-] Great_Leader_Is_Dead@hexbear.net 15 points 10 months ago

One Punch Man

Cuz if you can get in THAT good of shape with just 100 push ups, 100 sit ups, 100 squats and a 1k run, I'd be swole as fuck just doing 25 of each a day!

Shokugeki no Soma, it's just our world but the food is better

[-] Aryuproudomenowdaddy@hexbear.net 12 points 10 months ago

The Seven Deadly Sins so that Diane could step on me.

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 12 points 10 months ago

Imagining being something mundane, like a math teacher, in Revolutionary Girl Utena is a funny thought, but not a great answer.

Frank and ChestRockwell already have the most sensible answers, so I'll just suggest Spy X Family for GDR-emblem reasons (although the actual politics of of Westalis and Ostania are non-existent).

[-] ChestRockwell@hexbear.net 6 points 10 months ago

Spy x Family is incredibly cool and comfy, great choice.

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 6 points 10 months ago

Being one of those poorly animated 3d people in the background seems pretty swell, don't it? Lol

Maybe Space Dandy, so I could try all the different alien ramen recipes from that one ramen episode.

Sometimes I think it might be cool to live in the Cowboy Bebop future- 99% of people probably never interact with bounty hunters or syndicate assassins, so you could just live as a normal guy but get to visit other planets. But the Earth being constantly bombarded by asteroids would be a bummer. Plus that one lady almost turned millions of people into apes with a bio-weapon, and Vincent Volaju almost killed millions of other people with a bio-weapon. Probably not worth it overall.

As you said, Pre-Z Dragonball Earth has a variety of cool places to explore, plus it has dinosaurs and animal people. There's also some neat cities, and you could visit Penguin Village. Capsules are really cool too.

Howl's Moving Castle has magic and the chill Miyazaki vibe with the delicious-looking Ghibli food, and there's someone to actually stop the idiotic imperialist wars.

[-] booty@hexbear.net 10 points 10 months ago

I'd live in the Dragon Ball universe

This is a good answer but also for another reason: You can literally do anything with enough hard work. What a wonderful fantasy. powercry-1 Like if I lived in the Dragon Ball universe I would simply work out until I can punch gods to death and then nobody could kill me.

[-] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 10 points 10 months ago

I've been watching a lot of space western anime so shit. That would suck.

Could I maybe just live in the small town from Jojo S3 and somehow not die? That season was basically just Persona 4.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 8 points 10 months ago

Oh man I was obsessed with Outlaw Star and TriGun as a tween.

I'd live in the Macross world so I could fly a valkyrie jet and get turned into vapor 3 seconds into an alien attack but by golly those 3 seconds would be glorious

Whoever lives can have my autographed Sunset Beach single

[-] Erika3sis@hexbear.net 8 points 10 months ago

Aria. Obviously it's going to be Aria. It could not be anything other than Aria. Not in a million years would I have even begun to think of an answer other than Aria.

Aria, by the way.

I'd mainly stick to shit that's as close to reality as possible since throwing in all the extra jank that's common to slot of fantasy or sci-fi can really make it harder to live a normal life.

Anything fantasy usually sucks as is because is throwing you back to a more primitive standard of living and socio-economic mode of production. If you're someone who doesn't wash their ass, this would be perfect for you, I bet.

Anything sci-fi usually sucks because it's capitalist hell cranked up to 11. Whatever treats you enjoy now generally becomes concidered luxury items in the future and you're told to make do with eating toothpaste flavored nutri-paste while working your 20 hour shifts for your corporate government overlords. If you're someone who wants to get in the pod, this would be perfect for you I bet.

Black lagoon or steins;gate, or name a basic-ass slice of life, is basically our reality with minor tweaks so they'd probably be the best fit for me. At most I'd go for something spicy like the Nasuverse, but I still think that's a too much.

[-] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 4 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Of course if you force me to choose something other than mundane, then any show directed by Shinichirō Watanabe.

[-] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 7 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

This made me realize how much it would suck to be in Jojo, be one of the like half-percent of the population that gets a Stand, and then have it be [Papa Roach] or something. 60 years of "My Stand, [Down With the Sickness], lets me infect people at will at the cost of permanently having the common cold and a virulent fungal infection . . ." assuming I don't just get killed by one of the Stand users that I am mutually drawn to.

But critically, it's a tiny portion of the population that has a Stand and anyone else dies if they get hit by the arrow, so living there would be like living here but with supernatural mass-death events that I can neither comprehend nor defend from.

Edit: It's Nichijou, btw

One Piece. I like boats and the fact that you can man a brig with a half dozen people is cool. Also you can work out so hard that you can cut air and lift said ships and light your legs on fire. Devil fruits are cool too.
Also I could revolutionise their sail technology by teaching them about how wind works (they do not understand what makes ships move, as can be seen by the fact that their square rigged masts have three sails as opposed to five. In the 1800's the two largest sails were split in two because we figured out stuff about aerodynamics. The one piece ships use the old style, so they haven't figured it out yet). I'd tell it to Vegapunk in exchange for a rad devilfruit. Would miss diving tho.

Yes yes I know of the repressive aristocracy and all that stuff. If you wanna be dour and "realistic" about what your life would likely be, then the best answer is probably something that is as close to the real world as possible, since you're not risking anything then.

I'm gonna be a pirate in a world were logistics aren't really real and I can get lucky and turn into a person who can control everybody's farts or something and also if I work hard enough I can do anything. What a nice fantasy.

[-] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 6 points 9 months ago

Lupin III. It's basically real life, and I probably wouldn't get involved in any of the nonsense, but the heists would be fun to hear about.

Also Azumanga Daioh. Even more mundane, but it would be fun to know you exist in the same space and time as Ayumu Kasuga... Or maybe I'd get haunted by Chiyo's father.

Patlabor would be interesting. Basically modern day, but with Mecha. The live action sequel states the Mecha have hugely fallen in popularity, because the prolonged recession made their use too expensive - making the Mecha cops a relic of the past and at constant threat of getting axed. So it might even be unremarkable, until one day you stumble upon these huge machines doing work.
