You can't tell her hat from her hair. I just saw this ep for the first time and that is some masterful acting. She elevated everyone else on the goofy pastel set. She brought tension to every shot. BADASS LADY SCIENCE POPE.

To be fair, it's kind of rare for a black guy to be able to even have a bowl cut.

[-] ikidd@lemmy.world 14 points 8 months ago

I want to see what he looks like with the front long enough to touch his eyebrows.

[-] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 37 points 8 months ago

Ask and your shall receive!

[-] verity_kindle@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

Gorgeous. Lines of majesty.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 61 points 8 months ago

They adopted that haircut because they thought it would help them better interact with humans. They intercepted a lot of television broadcasts and decided this was humanity's greatest champion.

You posted the wrong picture of Moe. Here is the correct one:

"There is a comic actor known as a Stooge with that name. The boy believes we have similar hair."

[-] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

Stuart?? His father left us on Tuesday

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 4 points 8 months ago

This is one of the many reasons why the Vulcans were so interested in us ..... because of representatives like this ...

[-] ikapoz@sh.itjust.works 23 points 8 months ago

I think you mean the “Historical Documents”

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 2 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

They had a few early television and radio broadcast characters that had similar features

[-] LopensLeftArm@sh.itjust.works 58 points 8 months ago

The Vulcan Cosmetology Directorate has determined that the bowl cut is the most efficient and logical hairstyle to suit all occasions.

[-] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 16 points 8 months ago

Except that's not a bowl cut. It's closer to a lame pixie cut than a bowl cut.

[-] Maalus@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

The vulcan science directorate has determined that there once were two hairstyles in the past (the second probably having something to do with Romulans). They also determined that time travel is impossible, hence just one hairstyle now.

[-] fidodo@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

I mean it's the haircut moms give kids to optimize for time, so it's definitely efficient.

She read that book on human sexuality and logically she would choose a more human hairstyle since Spock is half human.

That or she didn't want to be a basic bitch.

[-] verity_kindle@lemmy.world 20 points 8 months ago

Original series T'pring's attitude could make any hairdo look good. You gotta believe in yourself as a triflin', intriguin', spicy murder senorita before you can pull it off.

[-] feedum_sneedson@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago
[-] menemen@lemmy.world 20 points 8 months ago

Shouldn't they simply all have a buzz cut? Easy to maintain, easy to keep clean even in difficult circumstances, never gets in the way. Just the most logical haircut.

[-] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 27 points 8 months ago

Scalp sunburns are no joke on Vulcan.

[-] half_built_pyramids@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

There's a theory that head hair grows longer because of people. Essentially longer head hair was sexy to cromags.

On Vulcan that would've been a different. The Vulcan cromag really liked the look of circumcised penis.

[-] feedum_sneedson@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago
[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

Is it not logical to adapt to Earth culture by adopting its most beloved hairstyle?

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

It doesn't protect the scalp from the sun.

[-] verity_kindle@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

Low gravity friendly, too!

[-] Davel23@kbin.social 20 points 8 months ago

Man, Susie Plakson was a stone-cold hottie.

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 21 points 8 months ago

She made a good Klingon, too.

[-] klemptor@startrek.website 14 points 8 months ago
[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 9 points 8 months ago

Ah, can't believe I forgot that one!

[-] verity_kindle@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago
[-] eva_sieve@lemmy.world 18 points 8 months ago

I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that you have two pairs of the same person and that more than half of these examples (Solkar, Spock, Sarek) are sourced from a single family.

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 8 months ago

Ah yes, vulcans have genetically inherited haircuts

[-] eva_sieve@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

Look, I'm just sayin', if you know there's a particular haircut that looks good on your family's skull shape, it might be logical to stick with it.

[-] affiliate@lemmy.world 15 points 8 months ago

it’s the most logical haircut

[-] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 12 points 8 months ago

It kind of really is

  • unisex
  • low maintenance, looks pretty much the same at all times
  • functional, nothing can get stuck in machinery or fall into the eyes, fits easily into helmets
  • unassuming, reasonably aesthetic
[-] banichan@lemmy.world 9 points 8 months ago

That barber must be exhausted.

[-] CodexArcanum@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

The Barber of Vulcan gives everyone a bowl cut who doesn't do their own hair, so who bowl cuts the barber? (Ancient Vulcan logic test, too difficult for human minds.)

[-] Sludgeyy@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago

Vulcan's hair could simply grow to this length and stop.

[-] Lath@kbin.social 5 points 8 months ago
[-] sagrotan@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

One less decision, one less problem. One moment, maybe that's the solution?! For us all to live long & prosper?? I'll take it!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Hating someone off of their race, culture, creed, sexuality, or identity is not remotely acceptable. Mistakes can happen but do your best to respect others.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon' and fuck over our artist friends.

Fun will now commence.
