Gotta get those microplastics right in there by the roots

[-] RamblingPanda@lemmynsfw.com 21 points 8 months ago

It's what plants crave

[-] bort@sopuli.xyz 4 points 8 months ago

solid blocks of plastic create microplastics when sitting in dirt?

[-] MaggiWuerze@feddit.de 9 points 8 months ago
[-] Wahots@pawb.social 3 points 8 months ago

Acidic soil + UV, for sure.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

I don't get it. Are you a microplastics denier or something?

[-] Contend6248@feddit.de 1 points 8 months ago

Are you watering your plants? Microplastics got you anyway

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Maybe slow it down a bit by not directly putting more plastic in there.

[-] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 1 points 8 months ago

I just think people here have taken the worry about it to ridiculous degree.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

I wasn't worrying about it; I was glibly joking about the ecological disaster.

[-] Justas@sh.itjust.works 19 points 8 months ago

Me and my wife chose a more sporky solution.

A cup of sporks with vegetable names on them

[-] MeanEYE@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago
[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago

And better than putting more plastic in the dirt.

[-] MeanEYE@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

If you take the plastic out, it's not much of a problem.

[-] IMALlama@lemmy.world 13 points 8 months ago

These are cute, but I use popsicle sticks personally. Fast/easy. Now drip trays and even pots... those I have been known to print.

[-] technomad@slrpnk.net 12 points 8 months ago

Alright, well, I thought these were really cool. Just sayin'

[-] Grass@sh.itjust.works 11 points 8 months ago

Do we just have enough micro plastics already in the water and soil that these don't make a measurable difference?

[-] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 6 points 8 months ago

I mean do you really think these would make a measurable difference? I'd be really surprised.

[-] MNByChoice@midwest.social 10 points 8 months ago

I am a terrible gardener as I only recognize zucchini.

[-] Ephera@lemmy.ml 22 points 8 months ago

They're written in German/Austrian.

Paradeiser is tomato,
Kürbis is pumpkin,
Melone is melon,
Salatgurke is cucumber,
Melanzani is eggplant.

[-] spechter@lemmy.ml 15 points 8 months ago

I'm a native speaker and I've never heard Paradeiser until three weeks ago

[-] Ephera@lemmy.ml 11 points 8 months ago

Native speaker of German or native speaker of Austrian? Because yeah, that's perhaps the most Austrian word in existence...

[-] Schlecknits@feddit.de 5 points 8 months ago

I was raised in near Vienna and I heard the word often. However I've moved to Tyrol recently and it isn't really used here.

[-] Hellstormy@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Here in Salzburg nearly nobody uses it

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

"Paradeiser" ist Österreichisch.

[-] LowtierComputer@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

Interessant!

[-] Roflmasterbigpimp@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

In April comes the "Bubatz" one? 🥸

[-] starchylemming@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago
[-] Roflmasterbigpimp@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Oh is he Austrian? Whoops. I guess not then. But our brothers and sisters from the Alps are more then welcome to join us :D

[-] Schmuppes@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

The "Paradeiser" gave it away.

[-] seasick@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

indeed I am

[-] lugal@lemmy.ml 7 points 8 months ago

Found the Austrian

[-] blooddemon40k@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

Pics of your Salatgurke or it didn't happen

[-] darkmogool@feddit.de 6 points 8 months ago

How to say you're from Austria, without saying you're from Austria.

But nice signs.

[-] ben_dover@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

Hello fellow Austrian 👋

[-] MeanEYE@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

I have a different approach. I print very thin 0.2mm plastic strips and use label maker on them.

[-] hinterlufer@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

might as well cut up old yogurt containers

[-] MeanEYE@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago
[-] swordsmanluke@programming.dev 4 points 8 months ago

You don't have enough zucchini markers.

Hmm. How many kilos do you have? It doesn't really matter how much zucchini you plant - you will need at least three times as many markers as you think.

[-] KSPAtlas@sopuli.xyz 3 points 8 months ago

Post Melone

[-] monomon@programming.dev 1 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I wanted to make something similar for my mom's garden, but yours look way better than what I had in mind. Thanks.

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 1 points 8 months ago

planing

Well I've used a thickness planer but it wasn't good for field work. I have a hand plane but please let me know how I could use it on my garden.

[-] Paragone@lemmy.world -1 points 8 months ago

No Triffid markers??

Normal ppl, harrumph.
