  • According to research group Sapien Labs' annual Mental State of the World report, the UK is the second-most unhappy country globally. NDTV.com
  • Based on surveys from over 400K people across 71 countries, the report indicates a decline in mental health worldwide since 2020 or the onset of the COVID pandemic. The Economic Times
  • On the Mental Health Quotient scale, which ranged from negative−100 (very dissatisfied) to 200 (very satisfied), the UK registered 49 — just above Uzbekistan, the lowest-ranking country. Firstpost
  • At least 35% of Britons reported feeling distressed and ranked last in the "percentage of people struggling mentally" category. Time Out United Kingdom
  • The report revealed that access to smartphones at younger ages and consumption of ultra-processed food strongly impacted respondents' mental health. NZ Herald
  • In addition, the report found that developing countries outperformed wealthier nations, including the US and the UK, in terms of mental well-being rankings. Daily Mail (LR: 5 CP: 5)

Narrative A:

  • Reports like this show that poor mental health across Europe and North America is an indication that being rich or economically developed doesn't translate to greater life satisfaction. This report is a call to action to take greater care when exposing younger people to certain technologies and to strengthen social and family bonds in order to foster genuine happiness in wealthier countries.
HUFFINGTON POST (LR: 1 CP: 4)

Narrative B:

  • Conflating emotional health with happiness sometimes makes measuring the mental well-being of individuals worldwide tricky. As regards this report, while it shows a lack of recovery from the pandemic's initial mental health toll, there may have been a reporting bias, as only internet-connected populations could respond to the survey.
    THE TELEGRAPH

Nerd narrative:

  • There's a 50% chance that the World Happiness Report will rank the US at least 18th in 2022-2024, according to the Metaculus prediction community.

After 14 years of a right wing useless Tory government intent on destroying everything in their path... should we be surprised? No.

I feel depressed just thinking about that shitshow. Are we really in the darkest timeline because a man once eat a bacon sandwich in an odd way?

There’s not a day that goes by where I don’t wish we had chaos with Ed Miliband.

The stable and strong government we’ve had with the 5 successive Tory PMs (so far) since that election has been far worse.

I wonder if he wakes up every morning thinking "what if I hadn't gone with the Edstone?".

Thanks Sunak.

But really we just need more community, work less hours and have more affordable housing.

Reclusive Island Monarchy Now Second Unhappiest Nation in the World

Reports indicate that the militaristic regime is now the second unhappiest nation in the world behind Uzbekistan.

With poverty rising, unelected leaders of the hermit kingdom continue to use their funding to bomb and support coups and genocides in foreign countries.

At the same time, food bank use is soaring.

Is anyone honestly surprised by this?

I was about to say "I'm not surprised".

I even thought the psychologist and psychiatrist I've seen the past couple of years look almost as miserable and exhausted as me.

Terrible state this country seems to be in.

It is pretty surprising that the UK has been put behind places like Sudan, Syria and DRC, so yes. Maybe we can blame the weather

Maybe a better title is "Second worst mental health in a country being remotely honest about the figures"

[-] Shepstr@feddit.uk 10 points 8 months ago

Probably because this country is a shit hole. There's nothing to do, and what little there is costs far too much money. Even a visit to the local costs a small fortune.

No offense British friends, but I get your Sky news comment sections in my youtube feed and it casts this report in a horrifyingly believable light.
