I have just upvoted your post

FAQ

What does this mean?

The amount of number on your post has increased by one, and you now have an unfair advantage in the marketplace of ideas.

Why did you do this?

There are several reasons I may deem a post to be worthy of positive number. These include, but are not limited to:

• Rudeness towards libs, • Spreading correct information, • Sarcasm not flagged with a /s.

Am I a mod of c/chapotraphouse now?

No - not yet. But you should keep making posts like this in the future. I will be forced to issue additional upvotes which will give you further advantages.

I can't believe my post deserved an upvote. This must be a dream.

Not a dream, a spectre. It haunts the libs.

How can I get this to happen again in the future?

Accept the upvote and move on. But learn from this victory: your behavior will be tolerated on hexbear.net. I will continue to issue upvotes until communism wins. Remember: posting is a right, not a privilege.

We have altered the voting scheme. Pray we do not alter it further.

Add downvotes for lib posts only.

[-] silent_water@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

this doesn't even make sense. they can downvote us and we can't downvote them. we ratio them anyway.

[-] Noven@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

I've never seen downvotes used for anything other than indicating to others who to dogpile on, without it a lot of people simply won't know which side of an argument they should be on

[-] silent_water@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

spoiler: you can just read the post and decide whether or not to dogpile the-more-you-know

Wouldn't removing downvotes put us at a disadvantage when commenting and posting on another instance though? Everyone else can downvote us, but we can't downvote anyone. So any advantage we have by removing downvotes is undone by that.

[-] Zuzak@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

They think we'd downvote posts from our own instance farquaad-point data-laughing

Proposal: instead of bringing the downvote back, we should get a second upvote option so we can double-upvote comrades

[-] Budwig_v_1337hoven@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

all hexbear votes need to be multiplied by a hundred in order to offset those foreign downvoting hordes

ATTN: if you make an acct at lemmy.world, use a VPN or ur privacy is at risk

[-] quarrk@hexbear.net 0 points 1 year ago

Easier, practical solution: assume all internet activity (especially social media) is public and act accordingly. Even if you have an anonymous username.

Definitely true, but the lemmy.world mods are trying to dox any commenters they deem to be from hexbear

[-] quarrk@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

That’s fucked. A VPN sounds like a good idea in that case.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

This isn't about Hexbear. As far as I know Hexbear federates downvotes but does not have downvotes, which puts us at a vote disadvantage. It's Beehaw and some others that reject downvotes from other servers. They send a 504 response to the incoming downvote request from the other server.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

Do we need to? I kinda like that we dominate without them.

only if we start getting lurkers that downvote trans shit again. I may still be misunderstanding how they work on hexbear though

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Fortunately this is only really a problem in /new/ and by the time any trans post reaches /active/ it's going to be too powerful to be affected by it. Also nobody can see the handful of them that might happen so it shouldn't affect people here.

Could be wrong though and in that case some method of turning it off for specific comms might be useful.
