This weekend I aim to relax as much as my children will let me. But my younger daughter turns one on Sunday. So, we’ll likely celebrate that.

Rest. Little time to myself from a packed 60hr work week. I need to defrag my brains.

Congratulations!

I had such a good day, got a mega inexpensive haircut which looks great, had a lunch date with myself (all you can eat Indian is nom), walked around the farmers market and city library, and just had some me time, which I normally never ever have.

Gonna have coffee with my sweet friend tomorrow. And sadly I have to go back to work Tuesday after five weeks off, but at least I'm in the right headspace because I was super duper burned out.

Sounds like a perfect weekend

Napping, Netflix, taking care of a sick husband, working on end of school year paperwork.

Cram for a test next week.

[-] mynachmadarch@kbin.social 5 points 11 months ago

My wife is taking a certification test tomorrow morning she's spent like the last four months studying every free moment for.

She's normally super anxious but feels fine. I feel like I'm gonna hurl. So my weekend is chewing my nails while she's in the test and then, uh, "working out" with her since we haven't had time to the past few months. Beyond that, who knows.

How many kids do you have?

I mean, the state of parents, whose kids are turning 1, is extremely exhausted, at best.

[-] orangeNgreen@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

That accurately describes me. I have two kids. My older one will be 3 at the end of the month.

Thanks, I'm just planning to watch a sad movie

A meetup is doing a picnic on Saturday so I might go to that. Otherwise just hanging out by myself. Probably some park walks. Maybe a bike ride. Video games. Frustratingly looking at tinder. It's so clearly enshittified.

Monday/Tuesday I have plans with folks that couldn't meet this weekend though, so that'll be nice.

[-] Num10ck@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

maybe build a dating app that isnt shitty and mention it in meetup groups and see if it can grow?

[-] berryjam@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Rather than that just setting up speed dating events, dances, etc. would yield better results for less effort. Or even setting up a matchmaker service...

[-] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 2 points 11 months ago

I've thought about it. Putting aside the tremendous technical hurdles, bootstrapping a new dating app is hard. And what would make this one special?

I had an idea for some sort of trust network thing. Like you could vouch for your friends, and if they're assholes you lose reputation. But that doesn't work without a lot of people.

It would probably be easier to get rich some other way and just buy out Match group, and use that position to de-shittify their apps.

I'm working with a new group of people in my current job and have been bowling, crazy golf and 11 too many cocktails!

We also work 4 on, 4 off so Monday is on Sunday this week.

[-] Elaine@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

Tonight, zone out, probably watch Judge Dee’s Mystery since I only have a couple episodes left, maybe play some Genshin Impact. Tomorrow I need to clean since my house is where the ttrpgs happen and Saturday is game day. Sunday idk - I had a really good time working on watercolors a few weeks ago so I think I will try to fit that in too.

[-] fubarx@lemmy.ml 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Clean the house. Zoom meetup with a friend. Go for a long walk or bike ride. Finish reading a book overdue at the library.

Oh yeah: read up on best way to plant blueberries and a fruit tree. Been sitting outside for a week now. Window for spring planting is closing.

Sleep, drink plenty of water, sleep, eat, sleep.

Cook French toast for my partner.
Help her finish customizing the new PopOS laptop I gifted her. She's enjoying it a lot more than Windows so far and commented on how she realized how much bullshit Microsoft makes you go through these days. Win.

Procrastinate house projects and stuff, in no particular order: rebuilding the backyard patio (which is currently just a frame), preparing the backyard for paving stones (old aboveground pool that's gone), finishing the concrete side-porch (currently water curing, so not much to do for now), finishing repainting my office (missing a coat), sharpen all our knives, oil the new hammock stand, fight with the neighborhood squirrels, laundry.

I'm usually excited to tackle these when I have some downtime but I've worked about 30 hours in the last 2 days/nights so I'm a bit broken for now.

RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.
