Sounds like Elon is upset about getting called out for liking Nazi content.

[-] bitwolf@lemmy.one 1 points 6 months ago

Did not know. I assumed it was to make it hard to scrape "weights" and put more blocks in front of AI dataset scraping

[-] BioWarfarePosadist@hexbear.net 51 points 6 months ago

Soon they'll get rid of likes all together because "People don't like edgy comments, which makes it appear like people hate edgy comments, so to encourage edgy comments we are removing usernames, likes, and retweets."

Basically just a chan board with a better DM system.

[-] SoyViking@hexbear.net 17 points 6 months ago

Remove the tweets as well and they might have done something good

[-] EmoThugInMyPhase@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago

Can you imagine a site removing downvoting?

[-] BioWarfarePosadist@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Just so you know, I used to be an Admin/Overmod of this website. I was part of the initial vanguard that fought the bots. Downvotes were actually ruining the site. You couldn't use hot or most upvoted to organize because of wrecker bots downvoting all the good stuff while up voting terrible things.

Now if you really dislike something instead of passively downvoting things now you have to communicate. This is bad for wreckers, CHUDs and Fascist cause it means the community can clean out the scum we don't want here, especially if they are the usual kind who aren't here to listen.

Gotta educate these youngsters on the history of this site lol.

This isn't remotely the same situation, our votes are already anonymous.

Downvotes were removed to force disagreement to be expressed socially, not to make it so fascists could "like without worrying who might see it."

[-] RION@hexbear.net 48 points 6 months ago

interesting to watch social media become increasingly less social

[-] MattsAlt@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago

Gotta remove any ambiguity to make it clear it's just a Nazi pipeline

[-] driving_crooner@lemmy.eco.br 41 points 6 months ago

And now you can't trace where likes came from, and "power" users, like Elon, could give any number of likes they want without anyone knowing.

[-] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 39 points 6 months ago

and the twitter-to-4chan transformation continues apace

[-] PaX@hexbear.net 28 points 6 months ago

many people feel discouraged from liking content that might be 'edgy'

The "edgy" content:

i-am-adolf-hitler

[-] Leon_Frotsky@hexbear.net 28 points 6 months ago

tbh this should have always been a feature imo, but its so funny that they're only adding it now to stop nazis from accidentally outing themselves to the public

[-] Parzivus@hexbear.net 28 points 6 months ago

This was a "feature" they added with the premium subscription, seems like an odd move to give it to the plebs

[-] Zodiark@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago

I think it's to protect people like Anat Schwartz who liked a genocidal post. Don't remember if it was on Twitter though.

[-] plinky@hexbear.net 27 points 6 months ago

rowlings of the world rejoiced

[-] iridaniotter@hexbear.net 12 points 6 months ago

Right, people saw what she was liking before she went fully mask off. She was exposed and nothing happened because canceling isn't real. So this won't really have any effect.

[-] CascadeOfLight@hexbear.net 27 points 6 months ago

So this will stop fascists who like fascists shit from facing the slightest repercussion to their public image, but I assume the back end will still be open for scraping by feds who want to compile lists of dissidents.

[-] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 16 points 6 months ago

Only left wing dissidents. The privacy of the proud boys is sacrosanct.

[-] blight@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago
  1. proud boys are not dissidents
  2. cops never cared about them, in fact they like them
[-] emizeko@hexbear.net 27 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

also makes it super easy to use bots to promote posts via likes because nobody can look at where the likes come from

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 26 points 6 months ago

The integrity of the game falls apart when you can't see the votes. People need to be able to verify that votes are real or sus or else it stops feeling fair.

The entire point of gameification is that people don't feel the game is rigged. Democratisation of posting needs to be verifiable to end users or else they'll just slowly gravitate to platforms they feel like they trust more.

[-] BioWarfarePosadist@hexbear.net 17 points 6 months ago

It's literally why we ditched the Down vote here on Hexbear. Because bots were down voting everything regardless of content and only up voting the things the bot was programmed to upvote. As such it became impossible to know what real users thought about stuff. By making it upvote only, we thoroughly decreased the amount of rigging outsiders can do to our Hexbear systemâ„¢.

[-] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago

Also some patsocs (maybe one?) Had some bots that were consistently down voting any trans post

[-] TheDoctor@hexbear.net 23 points 6 months ago

Just like Reddit! Wowweee

[-] Tabitha@hexbear.net 22 points 6 months ago

won't this also hide from me when my based-department followees like good stuff?

[-] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 21 points 6 months ago

Nazis hate getting ratio'd

[-] Rojo27@hexbear.net 18 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Twitter being worried about trolls...data-laughing

Who the fuck do they think they are tricking?

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 13 points 6 months ago

The chuds were angry at YouTube removing dislikes because it's woke or whatever, I wonder what excuse they'll give for their lord and savior Elon?

[-] AernaLingus@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago

how am I gonna be able to tease VTubers about liking shirtless Link fanart on Twitter now, this is outrageous!

[-] Lerios@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago

idk, i know this is probably happening on twitter for sus reasons, but in practical terms this seems like a straight upgrade? tumblr lets you hide your likes and thats great - i don't neccessarily need people who i want to have genuine conversations with exposed to my piss kink lmao, or to see that i'm into [name of trashy tv show here]. if anything this will improve engagement because you're not making a Statement everytime you hit the little heart button. generally more privacy is more good isn't it?

[-] EmoThugInMyPhase@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago

Eventually Elon is just going to turn twitter into 4chan where everyone is anonymous and verified accounts have unique trip codes

[-] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago

Lol, the whole platform is going to collapse.

[-] CliffordBigRedDog@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago
[-] glans@hexbear.net 5 points 6 months ago

they have invented my brain, which is also a place where I can like things without worrying who might see it.

[-] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 5 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Jordan Peterson wank farm fans rejoice.

Edging content - kelly

[-] sawne128@hexbear.net 3 points 6 months ago

So now you can like your own tweets and not be made fun of for it?

[-] umbrella@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)
