The Pope reportedly used a derogatory term about gay men again in a private meeting, where he is said to have reiterated a need for caution regarding them becoming priests.

Weeks after apologising for using a highly offensive word about gay men - the Pope has reportedly used the same term again.

Pope Francis initially made the remark in a closed-door meeting with bishops last month, when describing priesthood colleges as already too full of "frociaggine" - a highly offensive Italian slur.

According to ANSA news agency, the Pope repeated the term on Tuesday while meeting Roman priests, saying there is an air of "frociaggine" in the Vatican and it was better that young men with a homosexual tendency not be allowed to enter the seminary.

The Pope and the Church aren't friendly to the LGBT community?

Color me shocked!

[-] rottingleaf@lemmy.zip 28 points 5 months ago

Actually traditionally they were quite friendly "behind closed doors" and hostile officially. So this is a reversal I'd say.

What is very traditional is that Pope Francis is a corrupt cowardly evil piece of shit, but that isn't anything outstanding in Vatican's history, though worse than the previous Pope.

That's the surprise. It's not like it's written in black and white in their official book.

Turns out the most progressive Pope ever is still fucking awful. Like, better than previously but still pretty fucking bad!

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago

He's not especially more progressive than the rest. It's all been PR.

[-] TipRing@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

Benedict and Francis are allies in the church, of course they are both awful in private. It's weird that people think they are different.

[-] rottingleaf@lemmy.zip 5 points 5 months ago

"The most progressive ever" has been bullshit in each recent case. Because it's a safe PR image and those who can maintain it are those who have the power, and thus are not very good people.

[-] illi@lemm.ee 4 points 5 months ago

Popes obviously have the progressivness scale shifted compared to other people.

[-] Iapar@feddit.de 2 points 5 months ago

Not progressive but spineless. Like every religion when it loses relevance.

Looking forward to the "he's an old man, he doesn't know any better, Italian isn't his first language" people who defended him last time to come in and make a new excuse for why Christ's Vicar of Earth used homophobic slurs.

Thanks for saying what I would. When I commented on a post calling it out the fucking last time I got dog piled and downvoted. I'm a fucking queer guy, this shits hurtful and it's fucking infuriating that it's us that get shit when we're the fucking ones being insulted.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

I'm not queer, just an ally. It was disgusting the first time he said it and it's more disgusting this time that he said it after what happened the last time. He's a bigot and is fine with it.

“Having sex with adult men is gay. Having sex with little boys is what god wants”. - Papa Pope

[-] ShareMySims@sh.itjust.works 16 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Seems to me like he said it again (E: or that the spin doctors are telling us about him saying it again now, I doubt it's the first nor the second time he's said something bigoted) because he can see that people are more focused on him using a slur, than they are on the context that it is being used in - excluding gay men from the church.

That isn't to say there's nothing wrong with using a slur, there obviously is and it all feeds back to exclusionary attitudes, but this is clearly a distraction, and it is working very well - I've not seen any comments about the actual discrimination.

[-] Atin@lemmy.world 16 points 5 months ago

Instead of worrying about the gays, he should be focusing on the paedophiles

[-] tourist@lemmy.world 16 points 5 months ago

Thought this was old news, but then I read the article. He did it AGAIN.

If he can't handle the temptation to say slurs he definitely jerkin it in that pope HQ

[-] slurpinderpin@lemmy.world 12 points 5 months ago

These fucking assholes are some of the least Christ-like people on Earth. The irony is hilarious

[-] janNatan@lemmy.ml 7 points 5 months ago

I don't care enough about this to do the research. So, does anybody know which slur, in particular, he has now been repeatedly using?

[-] Blizzard@lemmy.zip 16 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

frociaggine - looks like it means faggotry

[-] todd_bonzalez@lemm.ee 11 points 5 months ago

No, that's the stuff that turns frogs gay.

[-] Blizzard@lemmy.zip 8 points 5 months ago

I also initially read it as froggacine.

[-] VaultBoyNewVegas@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

The f word for queer people but with ness on the end. I'd quote the word but it gets automatically censored and the last time I tried quoting I was fucking criticized because morons thought I did it myself.
