Icon: perhaps a film reel, or movie screen?

For a banner, maybe a bunch of Lemmings in a theater watching a movie? I might be able to create it.

Both great ideas.

For the icon, if we could get a film reel and make it a transparent gif then it'd fit nicely with the UI.

Thank you for the icon suggestions!

If you have some time, that would be great! We are in no rush anyway

Alright, I'll create the banner when I have access to my computer later today.

Nice!

Also, you see pretty active on movies, television and animation communities, would you like to join us as a mod here?

I love the idea of including lemmings in banner images! I did the same with the "learning rust and lemmy" community: https://lemmy.ml/c/learningrustandlemmy (using AI obviously, chat-GPT 4 IIRC).

How about a clapper board icon? The community isn’t limited to movies, so a clapperboard could encapsulate both movies and television.

Actually we are considering revisiting this.

We've been trying to support the growth of !animation@lemm.ee for instance, and we'll probably reach out to television communities to try to build bridges between communities and consolidate them.

There seems to be enough movie content to keep the activity going, so that shouldn't be an issue.

For a continued focus on film, the projector is a pretty iconic representation of the cinema and movies ... so perhaps an alternative image of a projector?

As a start, a quick search dug up these two creative commons pics of projectors: first and second. As easily identifiable thumb nails or icons, I can see images like those working quite well.

Nice pictures! Let's I suggest to keep them around, then I'll probably create another thread with all the suggestions

Updated: Updated the icon based on @maegul@lemmy.ml's suggestion (see comments below)

We can always revisit if people have other ideas.

Other members have offered to create banners, but those take more time.

I had to log in into the default web UI to see what it was on my PC, but it's great. Perfect for the sub. By default, I use phtn.app to browse lemmy on my laptop, and the icons are on the small side.

However, on my phone using Thunder, it looks great too.

So far, I'm really liking the new icon ... in the UI (I use the default webUI), it looks good and is clearly identifiable for sure! Nice work!
