Just an interlude until birdflu fully drops.

[-] Zorque@lemmy.world 52 points 4 months ago

You grew up and all your friends with houses have families?

[-] TheFriar@lemm.ee 11 points 4 months ago

Right? I’m sure kids are still having house parties when they get their first apartments and when their parents are out of town, but now that we’re all adults “house parties” turned into dinner parties and a quiet bottle of wine with a few friends

[-] meliaesc@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Additionally, there are more things to do as you get established. My friends and I have been camping, on roadtrips, on a cruise... at home we have parties for sporting events and our kids birthdays. Hell, I work in IT and we have midnight launch parties at my house occasionally.

I'm thinking y'all just grew up.

Take it from a noise control officer, there's plenty of house parties around especially during the summer, it's just university (for Americans: college) students far younger than me blasting music, sometimes at smaller flats, sometimes in large houses rented out by 5+ students. I'm not that old either but man, not a fan of that new party music.

I'm in what most would consider a medium sized town and there are manyy houses parties per suburb (even the quiet ones) during summer. They're around for sure, just attended by people under 25.

I'm giving off get off my lawn energy aren't I?

[-] Tja@programming.dev 21 points 4 months ago

No, you give off normal factual energy.

It's the OP in the tweet who gives off get of my lawn energy. I don't get invited to house parties, they must not exist.

[-] meliaesc@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Wait that's a full time job? I can weaponize my misphonia?

[-] Jimbo@yiffit.net 3 points 4 months ago

Where I am I do mobile security patrols on night shift which mostly include site checks at various industrial sites and rest homes, and for this company also noise complaints on behalf of the city council

[-] Croquette@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago

We get older, and many of us don't want/can't get lit and wake up at 1 pm the next morning.

It's fine that young people do it. And when we were young and partied, older people at the time didn't like our music either.

That's how it is.

Also general decline in social/conversational skills.

[-] SchmidtGenetics@lemmy.world 38 points 4 months ago

Nah more the introverts were finally free to turn down social invites from overbearing extroverts. Why do introverts always need to accommodate extroverts, but not the other way? Cant have a night in chilling playing games… cant always be clubbing every weekend… but no… thats boring apparently….

Covid really made it okay to say no to these people and that’s okay.

[-] henfredemars@infosec.pub 30 points 4 months ago

I am an introvert and I’m thankful for that. However, I still think people have generally declined in their ability to hold a good conversation over the past decade, regardless of whether or not they’re introverted or extroverted. I didn’t view that factor as related.

My comment was not an attack on any personal disposition.

[-] obinice@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

Have you noticed how people just pull their phones out and start scrolling through stuff in the middle of a conversation, group activity, or even a dinner date now? It's kinda startling.

They seem to really struggle to focus on just one thing for any length of time without losing interest, even if that thing is just... interacting with another person.

It's depressing to watch, and often pretty rude :-(

[-] Jimbo@yiffit.net 2 points 4 months ago

Yeah, call me old fashioned but that's pretty damn rude

[-] Macropolis@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

I think it's smart phones. I remember feeling super weird looking at my phone when I had people around. I've noticed people having whole conversations while looking at their phones.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 months ago

I'm paralyzed by a gnawing fear that I'm bothering people, so I keep to myself.

It's really toxic!

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Me too, it’s not easy of a trait as an extrovert

[-] SchmidtGenetics@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Fair perspective.

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 17 points 4 months ago

Why do introverts always need to accommodate extroverts

Because the introverts are too introverted to say what they really want.

[-] SchmidtGenetics@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Right… I smoke cannabis to help with that.

[-] EnderMB@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

I wouldn't say it was necessarily a drop, but you can socialize in so many different ways nowadays, so getting lots of people you don't really know/like together in your parents house is probably less appealing.

Lots of younger people don't drink nearly as much due to costs, so that probably factors in too.

There's a house down the block that blasts psychedelic jam sessions out the garage once in a while. I love it!

[-] echodot@feddit.uk 14 points 4 months ago

I only have a house. I don't want to have any parties in, you lot will make a mess.

[-] KoalaUnknown@lemmy.world 12 points 4 months ago

That and people steal too much shit. Can’t have a party anymore unless you know everyone there.

[-] ChexMax@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

Even when you do know everyone.. I threw a house party last month, and before it I went around and made sure any prescription drugs were locked away. You just don't know who secretly has a pill problem..

I think people always stole shit though.

[-] Croquette@sh.itjust.works -2 points 4 months ago

You have terrible friends then. Never had to lock anything in all my years of throwing parties.

[-] ChexMax@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago

Did you not read my post? No one stole anything I'm just not naive enough to think I can recognize if someone is struggling with a pill addiction. It's very easy to keep those under wraps.

[-] RaoulDook@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

In college we had apartment parties regularly, no need for a whole house to house a party.

[-] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

For me, it's more about liability. If I provide you liquor and you get drunk and drive home and kill someone in an auto accident, they can sue me. Hell, you can sue me.

[-] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Could sign a release form? Like Dennis Reynolds in IASIP

[-] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

Got a house. Don't want to trash it. Cause then it's all on me to get if cleaned up again. Fucking responsibility.

[-] cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 months ago

kid n' play grew up and stopped making movies.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Kid is 60 and Play is 62.

That's less house party and more home equity line of credit.

[-] kernelle@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

We still do once a year, invite only or know someone with one. I assume they all went this route

[-] cmrn@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

I thought I just wasn’t getting invited, but let’s go with this.

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

I've never had nor been to one. Are they not a thing as much any more?

[-] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 12 points 4 months ago

You just made me feel the oldest. I spent 2010-2015 in a constant stream of house parties. And yeah, they're not. Our society has been really rapidly breaking down for the last decade. I'm not saying it's because of the rise of fascism, but they're definitely correlated. I'd guess they both have a similar root cause of a vanishing middle class as the upper classes steal more and more from society at large

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

Oh, I'm old, I'm just not social.

[-] PrimeMinisterKeyes@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

We have assembled inside this ancient and insane theater to propagate our lust for life and flee the swarming wisdom of the streets. The barns are stormed, the windows kept, and only one of all the rest to dance and save us with the divine mockery of words. Music inflames temperament. When the true king's murderers are allowed to roam free, a thousand magicians arise in the land.
Where are the feasts we were promised?

[-] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 1 points 4 months ago

Still happens but not as often as people get older.
