I was on Reddit every day for 14+ years. July 1st I came to Lemmy and never looked back.

[-] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 44 points 1 year ago

Same. Longest I'd gone without commenting on reddit for a decade straight is 3 days. Now the longest is...since July 1st and counting.

[-] shadearg@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

I said I would leave my just-turned 15-year-old account after June 30th, received a lot of fomo jibe, and have only been back when I've needed to update the social links of my profile with new Fediverse replacement accounts.

Good riddance.

I miss the toxicity. I miss the inside jokes... I miss shitty watercolours. I miss the gore. I miss the profound comments. I miss the extremely detailed and informative answers to the most rudiment question.

Here is just: capitalism bad / Landlords suck / Linux / Chromium sux / Atheism

Don't get me wrong, I love these topics, but it's just that...

I found another website where I make my daily blog, but now I'm wasting even more time online....

You're in a meme community that's hosted on an instance started by Marxist-leninists. Of course you're going to see a lot of that. Have you tried to search for communities on other instances? I'm on Kbin, and this is one of many fediverse-wide communities I'm subscribed to from there. I don't get the constant politics and circlejerking on some other instances.

I was there for 12 years! Not that it’s a competition. It was a very weird transition at first.

[-] Sabata11792@kbin.social 19 points 1 year ago

Same. It was actually a big enough change to routine that it took a few weeks to stop automatically opening Reddit.

[-] Lazylazycat@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

I had to put the Lemmy app where Baconreader used to be 😢

[-] The_v@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Where RiF resided for me

[-] schema@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

I moved the lemmy icon to where reddit was on my browser's top bar. That helped a lot.

11 years and 3 days with well over 650k karma, before The Wipe for me. Power deleted all posts and comments.

[-] Stache_@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 year ago

Have you checked to see if Reddit un-deleted them? I’ve heard a few cases of people mass deleting their posts/comments, only for them to reappear a few days later

I was on there for a similar amount of time and was permanently banned for badmouthing the British royal family. Well, suggesting that the problem if British royalty could be solved with bricks, which are cheaper than guillotines.

The most annoying thing was that they treated that as some sort of actionable threat of violence.

The thought of that sniveling reporter and admin getting all uppity because I threatened their lords...

Ugh...

[-] iforgotmyinstance@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Same dude.

Honestly though its been easier than I thought. My screen time is way down and I have found lots of free time.

[-] scytale@lemm.ee 30 points 1 year ago

Then reddit admins use the time stone and all your comments are restored. You’ll need the GDPR stone to do it permanently.

[-] Romkslrqusz@lemm.ee 20 points 1 year ago

I’d rather edit every single post / comment to say “Fuck u/spez” but I don’t know how to use the API to do that and I don’t have the time to commit to that project :/

[-] Mr_Buscemi@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 year ago

Lol some subreddits had changed their automod to warn you for changing your comments to "fuck Spez"

I got one that sorta said "oh you are editing all your old comments before leaving reddit? Let me ban you to help you not come back"

Then they banned me not even 10 minutes before I deleted my account. It was such a pathetic sounding message lmfao.

[-] flicker@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

@Mr_Buscemi

Same energy as "You can't break up with me because I'm breaking up with you!"

Good suggestion. My next Selenium project may begin this Saturday.

[-] Izzy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Make sure to also link to Lemmy. 👍

[-] Frederic@beehaw.org 8 points 1 year ago

I used Redact to do it automatically, on my 13 years old account

[-] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago

PowerDeleteSuite if it still works

[-] Flyberius@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

I'm bored. Can I write you the code?

[-] finickydesert@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Do it for the rest of us

[-] shadowspirit@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

Nice username lol

[-] Shunned_Marble4378@feddit.de 10 points 1 year ago

I had like 10 Reddit Accounts over the past years

[-] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Right? Same here. I don't understand how people cherish their Reddit accounts so much.

whenever I delete old accounts I always make a gdpr request on all my data, does anyone else do that?

Nixed my account. Not missing it.

[-] AdmiralShat@programming.dev 7 points 1 year ago

I refuse to delete my writing account I started 12 years ago in case someone tries to steal my content again.

Deleted my 8 year old account and posts just last week. Feels great man.

[-] MarchOfMimes@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago

@balderdash9 9 year old account...gone. I can't believe how much it took me to do that. The day after they started their new charges. I really held out hope that they would see reason, like Hasbro with the whole license issue. Shame. Goodbye Reddit. Burn in hell.

[-] SaniFlush@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

made it all the way into r/ascension or whatever the 1 million karma club is called, only to find it was as vapid as the rest of Reddit.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

We are all ripped bozos on this blessed day.

rip-bozo

[-] Custoslibera@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

It’s such a relief knowing that Lemmy can’t get fucked up by some shill.

If I don’t like this instance I literally pick up my bat and ball and go to the next one over. Same experience there except without the person/people I don’t like.

[-] Gnubyte@lemdit.com 4 points 1 year ago

I got perma banned off of reddit for commenting on a sub that I had been banned from, and instead of them just not letting my comment post - they instead basically ban you for posting again.

So if you get banned of a sub on reddit and forget because...who cares.... You get yourself perma'd for ban evasion.

I got banned from like a news sub for saying "surprise not everyone shares your political opinion, of course there's dissent".

That's when reddit for me went absolutely to shit. Just getting blacklisted by mods who are reading into everything.

I went to check it out recently and I don’t recognize it anymore. Spending some time away was good for me. 11 years and it’s gone.
