The amount of data this app collects actually makes my stomach churn. Jesus christ.

The fact that anyone is surprised by Meta's data collection processes is surprising in itself. Did anyone not see the Facebook scandal?

This tactic is nothing new and they're only going to get worse. It's only a matter of time before Threads comes under the same scrutiny for predatory data collection methods.

It’s funny how unapologetic they are about it, but they know their users are hooked and don’t give a shit.

For those like me which didn't see the video linked it's the Threads by Linked in the OP is talking about.

Be careful for those that install it, I guess if you delete your account there, it deletes your Instagram one too.

Holy smokes it'd be quicker to list what data it doesn't collect. This is the kind of stuff that should make people that use services like Instagram think twice about it.

Android: You're going to need permission to access that data.

Meta: Then just give me all the permissions so I can have the data!

Holy crap, that's bad. They certainly need to make it one behemoth app for all these permissions to be legit. But otherwise, why do they think people want to use Threads so bad that they agree to use all this. (apparently already 10 million people, if these numbers are legit and not bloated due to link with instagram).

They're just banking on the fact that a ton of people either don't know that all their data is being collected or (even worse) don't care that this is the case.

When a lot of people have stopped using your data-sucking app / website (FB) and therefore your business model (hoovering up our data and hitting us with ads) is dying, what to do? Make a new one!
