I never would have known they made this movie if you hadn't posted this.

[-] jaybone@lemmy.world 28 points 2 years ago

I happened to catch a tv commercial for this the other day and I was like what? It appears they are trying to spin him as some great hero? Who comes up with this shit?

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 38 points 2 years ago

He is a great hero to a large segment of Republicans. Because he gutted the social safety net they hate so much and removed a lot of financial and ecological regulations. And also because they think he defeated communism forever. (But we cannot possibly reconcile with communist Cuba!)

Cut taxes massively on the wealthy. Do we think the wealth inequality that has been a staple is most of our lives has anything to do with that?

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

maybe they're trying to distract from the trump movie

My dude I'm almost never serious

[-] jaybone@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Omg I just say a promo, this is a thing. 🙁

[-] makeshiftreaper@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago

Clearly you don't go to the movie theaters very often. There's been big ass marquees for it for over a month now

[-] darkdemize@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 years ago

Guilty as charged.

[-] tobogganablaze@lemmus.org 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Same. But it only releases next month (unless you want tot settle for cam/telesync rips).

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

It's already out. Came out August 30th.

[-] tobogganablaze@lemmus.org 3 points 2 years ago

Yes, in cinemans. I'm talking about the digitial release.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Ah, gotcha.

[-] stoly@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I think I saw a photo on here a few days ago, but yes.

I'm honestly a bit surprised Republicans didn't preserve his body and put it on display, Lenin style.

Kevin Sorbo is the red flag here. Literally only makes christian propaganda bullshit.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 23 points 2 years ago

But I love that his career is at such a low point that he didn't even make the trailer.

[-] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 17 points 2 years ago

I wonder if they kept him out because they know he's a walking red flag and wanted this to appear mainstream.

[-] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 33 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I wonder what thanksgiving is like at the Quaid household. You've got Dennis making republican/chrisitian propaganda and Jack making The Boys where they rightfully analogize these people with nazis. Plus Meg Ryan who hasn't been seen anywhere, and don't forget crazy uncle Randy! A model American family lol.

[-] d00phy@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

Didn’t realize Dennis was a nut job.

[-] Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 years ago

Him, his wife, and their dog. All nuts.

[-] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 29 points 2 years ago

With great actors like Kevin Sorbo and Scott Stapp?

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 22 points 2 years ago

Sorbo isn't even in the trailer! He couldn't find a clip of Sorbo to use! I would feel sorry for him if he weren't a complete douchebag.

[-] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Scott Stapp was able to escape the government agents that were trying to hunt him down to make this fine film?!

[-] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 22 points 2 years ago

Still better than his presidency

[-] Bricriu@lemmy.world 19 points 2 years ago

Shorter, at least

[-] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 22 points 2 years ago

Yayyy I was afraid of that fuckin dingus getting any flattering light on him from this. Welcome news.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 15 points 2 years ago

I just don't think Reagan is the draw he might have been once. You can't rely on people old enough to have voted for him to fill all the movie seats.

[-] CodexArcanum@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

According to the YTer, it's been in development for at least 10 years. Maybe a large segment of their pre-pandemic, antivax/antimask crowd couldn't make it to the premier?

[-] Snapz@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Who is this YouTuber? Good person generally?

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

A comedian. I enjoy his videos.

[-] Snapz@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Anything about his general philosophy though... Decent person?

I'm just weary these days of people quietly pushing odd agendas in innocuous ways in unrelated content, so I like to walk into a new person with a more detailed intro from someone who is already a fan. Otherwise you get things like, "This is the way to make the best brownies for a summer picnic. We'll go through the recipe step by step and you'll love these brownies! I love Summer, it's a great time for picnics and also a great time to not get vaccinated and do a January 6th because what is a woman and CRT!"
