My memory is not improving as I go unfortunately. I’ve realized that half assing it on this is not working.

GoodTask is what Todoist should have been. Highly recommended, it feels like it was made for us.

Its especially good with the views it has. You can go between a list of your day, week, month so you can see whats ahead of you instead of reacting to everything blindly on the day of which is killer. Its kinda cool with the week view, you can have it so it always shows you whats up in the 7 days (including today) thats ahead as opposed to just the calendar week which makes you a bit myopic sometimes especially if its on Monday.

Also lets you show relative dates alongside the actual date so you know how many days ago something was or is from the current date which helps my temporal memory a ton

This sounds almost perfect. And yeah, so much ToDoist hype, and it just sucked.

I really liked it but I'm not cool with something I rely on life-or-death so much being a subscription and revokable and they're a privacy nightmare

Try GoodTask and see, it lets you do all the Pro (one-time payment option) stuff for a while so you can put it to the test before you buy it.

I need to be constantly reminded if I don’t complete a task. I was never able to get todoist to do that.

Let me know how it goes

Because I can dictate instantly into the Reminders app, without even unlocking my phone, it leaps over executive disfunction issues quite often.

Hold the power button for 2 seconds and say "add oatmeal and blueberries and coffee to the Groceries list" then go back to my task.

When I get to the store the list is grouped by type, mostly.

Or I say "remind me to call the doctor's office at 9AM tomorrow" and it goes into the default list and the task notifies me at the right time. For the stuff I inevitably brush off, there's a widget on my home screen that nags me so I can nurture my guilt lol.

So, I am leaning heavily into Apple's built in ecosystem for keeping track of things (more private, in theory, as well). I have a about a dozen lists that I add to verbally. Some of those lists are geographically activated so I get notifications when I drive into town that I need to pick up a package, etc.

The Reminders app is also the stock app that handles syncing reminders with all your signed-in accounts. Most things include them as part of calendar syncing :)

Fewer lists are probably better. I have several, but I only use the default reminders list and a grocery list called “grocery”

I have shared lists with my family for things like school and medical (grocery is shared too), but I’m the only one that looks at them, so I’ve quit using them.

If you have a lot of lists, then you’ll have to decide which list to add the reminder to, and that’s extra friction that you don’t want.

I love using Trello. Its cross platform. It really helps organising my work. I have a few boards for diferent types of work and it is so far the tool I've stuck with the longest compared to many othe apps and paper note books I've used. Its free tear plan is plenty for home use and you dont need the pro plan. I love how you can automate things you automatically move, create, color or delete tasks. If you need tips on how to get started let me know and I can show how I do it.

I don't really like phone based systems but I use voice assistant reminders (like Google Home/Alexa) constantly to prewarn when meetings are and the like.
