Move over, Taylor Swift: There’s a new “childless cat lady” endorsement for Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign from “Delaware’s most famous person.”

Wilmington native and actress Aubrey Plaza posted a photo of herself on Instagram Wednesday morning with the caption “HARRIS 🇺🇸 WALZ” and tagged Harris’ campaign page.

Plaza used a photo of herself from 2014 with the late Grumpy Cat in her lap.

Grumpy Cat (real name Tardar Sauce) was an internet celebrity cat from the 2010s known for her permanently frowny face. It was a nod to Swift’s instantly viral endorsement from Tuesday night, which featured a pic from her Time magazine photo shoot of her with her cat, Benjamin Button. Plaza voiced the part of Grumpy Cat in a Christmas special the pair filmed together in 2014.

It’s the latest in a monthslong pattern of Harris supporters who are cat owners embracing what was meant to be a slight from former President Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, calling Harris a “childless cat lady.”

Plaza is hailed as a hometown hero in Delaware, often praising her time with the Wilmington Drama League and Delaware Theatre Company as formative. She attended Ursuline Academy, an all-girls Catholic school, and later went to improv school in Philadelphia.

She’s also the namesake of “The Aubrey Plaza Plaza,” an unofficial name for the pedestal that held a now-removed Christopher Columbus statue. The site has its own Google Maps page.

In 2018, Plaza was named the biggest star from the second-smallest state, according to 750 Delaware News Journal readers. She outranked President Joe Biden, and the rivalry of sorts has become a running joke between the pair. Biden made a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live last year when Plaza hosted the show.

I love that this is how I learned Biden is from Delaware.

Biden was well known back in his Senate days for commuting from Delaware to DC on Amtrak.

Thank you for posting this.

She is my favorite actress, so this is pleasant to see. If you haven't seen her work in Legion, I strongly recommend it. Worth watching for her performance alone - genius level.

Man I wish Marvel wouldn't pretend that show never existed. It's so fucking good, absolute mind fuck. And given the connection to X-Men, they could easily fold it in or at least make a one-off film or something.

Edit: this might be a spoiler for Legion (and Deadpool 3 I guess), so be warned... But seeing as Deadpool 3 had Professor X's ~~daughter~~ twin sister, they could easily bring in his son. I wonder if they made a conscious choice not to make Legion the antagonist in that movie just in case they want to use the character again for something else?

I hear ya, but it's a little slice of perfection that can't be stained at least. I heard Noah Hawley specifically wanted to keep it to only 3 seasons as he felt a lot of shows start to go south after that. I largely agree (although he's pushed Fargo out further and it still really good).

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

That's fair. The way things are going now, they'd end up ruining the IP.

I would say Fargo doesn't really fit that rule as each season is a separate story with a completely different cast.

On a semi-related note, have you ever seen what Legion looks like in the comics? Lol, let's just say I'm glad they changed the aesthetic for the show.

The show made me want to buy the books so I did. They are not bad, but boy the overhaul on the style and the storyline was huge for the show and so much better.

Yeah I haven't read the comics, just seen pictures and was not a fan of the character design at all. Screams 90s/early 00s, but not in a good way imo

Yeah, I normally avoid and hate all the superhero stuff, because it's generally all the same. Legion was not though. Legion was different and we'll executed. I wish we could see more like it.

[-] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Legion is my favorite show, period. She's phenomenal in it.

If you like raunchy comedies and Audrey Plaza, watch "Dirty Grandpa" (not Bad Grandpa, that stars Knoxville). Audrey is gold in it, and the movie is hilarious from beginning to end.

Every time I see a photo of her looking straight at the camera like that, my heart skips a beat.
