I can't wait for a new always online game featuring John Halo with kernel level anticheat which won't work on Linux.

[-] Barzaria@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 month ago

Halo infinite uses non kernel level anti cheat if that means anything.

yeah chances are they'll stick with EAC and continue to be friendly towards the steam deck (and indirectly towards desktop Linux as a whole)

[-] Cyberspark@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

EAC is a Kernel-level anti cheat

okay cool but it works with a usermode module in Linux for now, and will probably continue to do so.

Its a start.

They’re rebranding to Halo Studios and switching from an in-house engine to Unreal Engine for all future games.

Unless they are moving away from live service, idgaf.

Sadly, that's just the norm nowadays. I can hope they just release a $60 halo game like in the past, but that doesn't make Microsoft as much money.

I just hope for a not terrible live service at the bare minimum, but knowing Microsoft I doubt it

Will be interesting to see if 343 just sucks at making Halo games, or if their engine was holding them back. Or both I suppose.

I hope multiple Halo games confirmed means some singleplayer/coop story stand alone titles. Seperate and quatantined from the online live service multiplayer titles.

That's cool and all but I won't trust Microsoft with anything anymore. I've really liked Halo in the past, but I won't be buying anything they put out.

[-] SplashJackson@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago

I didn't know they was still around

[-] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 month ago

343 is just a MS studio that they gave Halo to after Bungie made the good ones. Anyone important to making Halo what it was is long gone.

[-] MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

Initially a lot of them stuck around for the formation of 343i though. Don't know if they've stuck it out since though

Well there was Joseph Staten, worked on CE/2/3/ODST, went with Bungie when they became independent, then rejoined MS and ended up being "Head of Creative" on Halo Infinite.
