At this point, the man deserves life time achievement awards especially for literacy advocacy since to my knowledge he's never taken a break from that.

Totally agree. Presidential Medal of Freedom is not unjustified.

He is a TV icon and progressive pioneer for Roots, Reading Rainbow, and Star Trek. He is a champion of black rights and normalizing black people being educators. He has influenced millions to read more and become more educated and literate.

It’s a sin he hasn’t been given one already.

As always a great example for humanity.

All I saw was a thumbnail, and the rest of the scene played in my head. The giveaway was Geordi with naturally-colored eyes.

Say what you will about Insurrection, that moment of joy at a dream fully and finally realized always hits hard.

Insurrection was a film full of disappointment, but with a few amazing parts that were really undersold.

Dude was my hero and role model growing up. Loved watching startrek and reading rainbow because of him.

[-] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 8 points 4 weeks ago

This guy deserves a lot more than that. But it’s nice to see him being recognized nonetheless.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 4 weeks ago

Never mind Reading Rainbow. He really needs an award for improving the lives of everyone on the Internet:

The man has been a tireless advocate for literacy, that's for sure.

But, looking at that thumbnail, it is entirely unacceptable that he keeps looking mpre handsome as he ages. Ffs, sir, you're making the rest of us look bad.

[-] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago

No kidding, he and Michael Dorn are textbook examples of aging like wine.

[-] dirtbiker509@lemm.ee 6 points 4 weeks ago

Does anyone know if I can buy the full reading rainbow series somewhere? I have tried looking but haven't found it.

[-] Benjaben@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

Hmm I'd like to know that too.

[-] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 weeks ago

I wish I was LeVar Burton

[-] kerrigan778@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

It doesn't get said often enough about men, but he has aged like the finest wine.
