His PR got confusingly bad recently. He went from someone that was a bit cringe but nobody hates to someone who has done a lot of good but still has an employee that was accused of sexual assault*.

What's the next thing to do to to save face? Start a brand with 'suicide forest' Logan Paul and 'Thick of it' KSI.

I don't get it, he had such a good thing going where he got essentially unlimited views.

  • tbh I don't really keep updated with popular celebrities details might be off, the last time I watched Mr beast was the Insane Asylum one 5 years ago.
[-] noxy@yiffit.net 9 points 2 hours ago

Looks like an asshole. I bet he sounds like one too, but I intend to never hear his voice.

[-] GenosseFlosse@feddit.org 3 points 1 hour ago

He has this fake used car salesman smile that rubs me the wrong way...

[-] WoahWoah@lemmy.world 17 points 5 hours ago

He's a rich psychopath. Throw him in with the rest.

[-] Siegfried@lemmy.world 8 points 3 hours ago

But he hired lawyers to prove that he isn't

[-] affiliate@lemmy.world 10 points 3 hours ago

interesting strategy to hire a lawyer for that instead of a psychologist

[-] Siegfried@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago

It has to be on the top of rich-psycopathic responses to being called a psycopath

[-] affiliate@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

yeah it’s definitely a contender for first place

[-] ipkpjersi@lemmy.ml 16 points 5 hours ago

A person that made their entire brand and fortune off of having large amounts of wealth to throw around?

I am shocked I tell you, shocked! Well, not that shocked.

[-] Wogi@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

To "throw around"

Is an interesting way of working "give to his friends while committing sweepstakes fraud."

[-] Jimmyeatsausage@lemmy.world 17 points 5 hours ago

Dead eyes...like a doll's eyes.

[-] Jagothaciv@kbin.earth 30 points 8 hours ago

Jimmy is a self described DEGENERATE. He says it WITH PRIDE. Do research on your “heroes”. They’re shit. Check his early interviews. AND he brands with KSI, another fucking scum bag.

[-] kboy101222@sh.itjust.works 59 points 8 hours ago

So, you're not wrong, but why did you write that like a FB boomer talking about Obama?

[-] AhismaMiasma@lemm.ee 32 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

If you repost this with a picture of corn the US GOVERNMENT must reimburse you for all Facebook subsciption fees for the year.

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 17 points 8 hours ago

He’s a victim of his own success. He’s really good at gaming the YouTube algorithm and thinks that means he’ll be good at other things where he is definitely not an expert.

[-] Nalivai@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

But by now he has enough money to fail upwards with zero skills

[-] Paddzr@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

I wish my 8 year old son didn't admire his videos. But they hit right the spot And we curate them, there are videos he's not allowed to watch of his.

That's the problem... Outside of this, how is a child to understand the concept of bad influencer? He got some of the chocolate and it wasn't bad when it came to UK, then went up in price by 30% and shrunk by a half... But the videos? They're entertaining and it is a little past time for the family.

[-] Bosht@lemmy.world 49 points 9 hours ago

I still don't know who this cuck is besides a YouTube star that got rich off kids whose parents babysit them with tablets. How anyone can stand looking at the guys face or hear him talking is beyond me. His face just oozes sociopath / narcissist.

[-] loutr@sh.itjust.works 21 points 8 hours ago

One thing about him I saw in a Lemmy comment a couple months back, is that in every picture of him smiling, if you hide his mouth you're left with his lifeless eyes, it's like he was told how you're supposed to smile when you're cheerful so he goes through the motions but he's not entirely sure what the point is. It works with all the pictures of him I came across since then, including the thumbnail of this post.

[-] SomethingBurger@jlai.lu 9 points 8 hours ago

Tbf smiling on command is hard.

[-] loutr@sh.itjust.works 13 points 8 hours ago

Sure, but in every picture? Including some where he's supposed to actually have fun?

[-] yeahiknow3@lemmings.world 12 points 9 hours ago

He is a narcissist of the highest order. Exploited kids with illegal and rigged lotteries.

[-] paraphrand@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago

His early videos, clips I’ve seen in videos about him, show he’s a weird sociopath.

Every billionaire is a policy failure, whether they're a company owner, dictator, or streamer; they're all needlessly hoarding wealth, harming us all. If you have more money than you could ever spend while people freeze and starve in the street, you are part of the problem and a bad person...

[-] MataVatnik@lemmy.world 14 points 10 hours ago

But he creates jobs! (that are extremely exploitative and past borderline abusive)

[-] frunch@lemmy.world 21 points 11 hours ago

B-b-b-but he gives some of it back! Something something effective altruism 🫠

No one with as much money as he has is a good person.

He's basically just doing ethical bumfights, exploiting the victims of capitalism for YouTube views and thereby increasing his own wealth further.

[-] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 42 points 12 hours ago
[-] kava@lemmy.world 27 points 10 hours ago

it's an interesting moral question

if i give someone money and that alleviates their poverty, is that an ethical action? i think so. you are eliminating harm by reducing hunger, providing shelter, etc.

if i give someone money and that alleviates their poverty, but i do it for my own personal gain, is that an ethical action? you are still eliminating harm but you are doing it for an amoral reason.

ethical action, amoral motivation

then there's the perspective of by taking advantage of this individual, you are doing your part in perpetuating an unjust system. you are playing the role of the opiate of the masses. distracting and comforting those who are at the bottom of the pyramid.

having said all that, i think it's still more ethical than bumfights. although i couldn't tell you if it was ethical or not by its own

[-] thesporkeffect@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

He isn't generally elevating randos out of poverty though. I don't have citations but my understanding is most of the big payouts he has done went to people in his friend group despite the implication that it was not.

[-] NewNewAccount@lemmy.world 13 points 9 hours ago

Defining ethics is a question as old as philosophy itself.

[-] MataVatnik@lemmy.world 12 points 10 hours ago

Based on some interviews there is nothing ethical about what this guy is doing. Based on one case I think he should be in jail

[-] frunch@lemmy.world 5 points 6 hours ago

The sleep deprivation guy seemed like he could have a lawsuit against Mr. Beast. At least based on what he was saying, it sounded like what they did to him should have been illegal

This guy has that elon musk syndrome where he doesn't know shit about logistics, especially specifics of the industries he tripped over his money into and assumes he can just throw cash at every idea he half bakes and everything will work out.

[-] vxx@lemmy.world 21 points 10 hours ago

I don't think the stuff would be molding 2 months before the best before date if he threw money at it. It's a sign he cheaped out and is producing the stuff in an unhygienic facility.

[-] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 12 points 10 hours ago

Given what happened with Mr Beast Burgers, he seems to pick the cheap option all the time.

[-] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 61 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

This guy is a giant turd with googly eyes slapped on it.

[-] glimse@lemmy.world 31 points 12 hours ago

He does not smile with his eyes and I find that unsettling.

[-] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago

Dead eyes, like a dolls eyes.

they're delivering perishables through the mail.

anyone working last mile deliveries can tell you that it's a miracle the mail is delivered at all.

[-] BowtiesAreCool@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

The issue was faulty glue application that didn’t make an actual seal. How this wasn’t caught during packaging means that they had basically no quality control

[-] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 31 points 12 hours ago

He's basically clickbait distilled into human form. If people stop paying attention to him he'll wither and die
