Summary

Far-right Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene claims that Donald Trump’s recent election win validates her position as part of “mainstream America” rather than the “fringe.”

Greene, known for her controversial conspiracy theories, argued on conservative outlet Real America’s Voice that Trump’s supporters align with her beliefs.

With speculation that she might join Trump’s cabinet, Greene asserted that loyal MAGA supporters should be prioritized for roles in his administration over newcomers like RFK Jr. and Vivek Ramaswamy, emphasizing her unwavering support for Trump and his policies.

I hate to say it... But yeah. She is.

I hate this timeline.

[-] Joelk111@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

Yep, this is what caused me the most grief about the election. These people are everywhere.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 160 points 5 days ago

I'm terrified that she's right. And I think she's right.

[-] circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org 52 points 5 days ago

After Tuesday, I must conclude she is right.

I've never been so embarrassed about my country. The fear hasn't even hit me yet.

[-] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago

Somehow even as a minority, it's actually kind of cathartic to finally know what America is officially.

[-] ptz@dubvee.org 53 points 5 days ago

I still believe the sane people are the majority. However, they have clearly failed in their civic duties to show up to vote.

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 24 points 5 days ago

If you claim that sane people are the majority yet insane things happen, then everyone is insane.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Douglas Adams seemed to think so.

“Your wife,” said Arthur, looking around, “mentioned some toothpicks.” He said it with a hunted look, as if he was worried that she might suddenly leap out from behind a door and mention them again.

Wonko the Sane laughed. It was a light easy laugh, and sounded like one he had used a lot before and was happy with.

“Ah yes,” he said, “that’s to do with the day I finally realized that the world had gone totally mad and built the Asylum to put it in, poor thing, and hoped it would get better.”

This was the point at which Arthur began to feel a little nervous again.

“Here,” said Wonko the Sane, “we are outside the Asylum.” He pointed again at the rough brickwork, the pointing, and the gutters. “Go through that door” — he pointed at the first door through which they had originally entered — “and you go into the Asylum. I’ve tried to decorate it nicely to keep the inmates happy, but there’s very little one can do. I never go in there myself. If I ever am tempted, which these days I rarely am, I simply look at the sign written over the door and I shy away.”

“That one?” said Fenchurch, pointing, rather puzzled, at a blue plaque with some instructions written on it.

“Yes. They are the words that finally turned me into the hermit I have now become. It was quite sudden. I saw them, and I knew what I had to do.”

The sign read:

“Hold stick near center of its length. Moisten pointed end in mouth. Insert in tooth space, blunt end next to gum. Use gentle in-out motion.”

“It seemed to me,” said Wonko the Sane, “that any civilization that had so far lost its head as to need to include a set of detailed instructions for use in a package of toothpicks, was no longer a civilization in which I could live and stay sane.”

He gazed out at the Pacific again, as if daring it to rave and gibber at him, but it lay there calmly and played with the sandpipers.

“And in case it crossed your mind to wonder, as I can see how it possibly might, I am completely sane. Which is why I call myself Wonko the Sane, just to reassure people on this point. Wonko is what my mother called me when I was a kid and clumsy and knocked things over, and sane is what I am, and how,” he added, with one of his smiles that made you feel, Oh. Well that’s all right then. “I intend to remain.”

Great ... another reminder that I should read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Thanks for this Flying Squid the Sane

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Before you read it, you should listen to the original 2 seasons of the radio series (they did more seasons after Douglas died based on later books).

The first two books were based on the radio series, although there are some differences.

But I think the two seasons of the original radio series is the best version of the story. The later seasons less so.

You can listen to it all here, but I would stop at 206.

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 days ago

Wow ... thanks for this again ... I've heard references to it, read articles about it but just never had time or space to read it ... I'll definitely look into this and take the time to listen and read it now ... never knew much about it other than the writer and the book and the fact that he just questions and holds a mirror to society and the insanity of our supposed 'civilized' society.

The insanity becomes more tolerable when you can find and read the thoughts of other people who agree that this world is indeed .... insane.

[-] blindbunny@lemmy.ml 22 points 5 days ago

And they want to make education worse...

[-] Ooops@feddit.org 11 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

She's wrong and right at the same time...

not a right-wing extremist ❌

mainstream American ✅

[-] CurlyWurlies4All@slrpnk.net 2 points 4 days ago

I used to say that in any situation on any given day, 10% of people are willing to hurt you, 10% are willing to help you, and the other 80% could go either way. I feel like I have to adjust that to 30/10/60 split now.

[-] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 103 points 5 days ago

Sorry but it's absolutely true and she's absolutely right after this election.

America is a racist nation.

[-] blarth@thelemmy.club 40 points 5 days ago

This election has shown me that my values aren’t compatible with most other Americans, and that is very hard to understand. I’m looking for the best alternative.

[-] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 22 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

I've come to the conclusion that there is no best alternative.

Republicans are full on racist, fascist, crazy people.

Greens are all the above with the rotted veneer of liking the environment.

Libertarians are all the above plus more racist and crazy minus the environment.

Democrats are incompetent, won't let go of being Republican-lite, and are unreliable allies like MLK warned about.

Progressives are petulant, instant gratification demanding, iPhone attention span, unreliable allies that MLK warned about.

Right now, I'm just going to go full independent and stop trying to fix any of this shit show and concentrate on just surviving and making sure my kids have an out. I've got no confidence in anything in this nation that isn't better than this so fix it yourselves, I'm out.

Through all of this, this has more or less been the toughest pill to swallow. It's not a vocal minority, it's all of them. I had hopes that enough of them would be turned off by the rhetoric and rape, but I've been proven wrong. Absolute zero empathy for humanity. I can only hope that these worthless people are hurt first and hurt worst by the upcoming administration.

[-] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 9 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

They will. The ACA is gonna be destroyed, FEMA is going to be destroyed, shit they are even going to take away the NOAA weather alerts because it will "promote climate change." They won't even have warnings before they hit and no money after.

Fuck them all. Especially the motherfuckers in Georgia who decided to sit this election out.

May the seas swallow them all.

“Think about how stupid the average American is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”

-George Carlin

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 43 points 5 days ago

They should install a turbine onto Carlin's grave because he's spinning so fast right now that he could power a small city.

[-] karl_chungus@lemm.ee 45 points 5 days ago

That’s clean energy, the incoming government won’t care until he turns to oil.

[-] RangerJosie@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago

I love that we have data to back that up now.

[-] karl_chungus@lemm.ee 13 points 5 days ago

I don’t :/

Yes, yes she is. I'm sorry to tell you that an obscene amount of americans could only be dumber if they were born as a stone. And another stupidly high part are also as evil as it comes.

Maybe if she becomes part of Trump's cabinet, she can finally get control of that sweet hurricane generating tech she said exists.

[-] Entropywins@lemmy.world 32 points 5 days ago

She is apparently not wrong, and I hate that.

[-] slickgoat@lemmy.world 22 points 5 days ago

She kinda, sorta, has a point...

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 34 points 5 days ago

Democrats are already seeking her endorsement for 2028.

The average American is dumb, so she's calling herself dumb, which she is. Gotta give it to her, she has some self reflection.

[-] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 16 points 5 days ago

At this point, she's right. she is mainstream America as mainstream America voted trump in too

[-] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

I wonder what portion of her "support" is thinking "stfu already and gtf back to the kitchen and let the men handle this shit".

[-] RangerJosie@lemmy.world 14 points 5 days ago

Nothing more normal than screaming "I'm Normal! I'm Normal! I'm Normal!" to everyone you can possibly victimize with your shrill not un-harpy-like voice.

[-] oxjox@lemmy.ml 20 points 5 days ago

That's the problem.

[-] cranakis@reddthat.com 20 points 5 days ago

She's right.

[-] zcd@lemmy.ca 19 points 5 days ago
[-] ShadowRam@fedia.io 18 points 5 days ago

Which is exactly why everyone is disappointed with this election.

It's not disappointment with what the dems did or didn't do.

It's the disappointment now knowing that America is dumber than initially expected and more out of touch of what's actually happening around them.

[-] n3m37h@sh.itjust.works 16 points 5 days ago

Yeah, America IS FUCKED

[-] PDiddyDo@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

She's right. Americans can't hide behind popular vote anymore. They are terrible people

[-] je_skirata@lemmy.today 14 points 5 days ago

I read that as "Magic the Gathering" and was very confused

That's not how that works.

The average mainstream American likes Christmas.
The average mainstream American doesn't own 90 ugly Christmas Sweaters so they can wear a different one every day for 2 months.

You are the latter.
