It's because right wingers are authoritarian and their authority told them science is bad.
Can you imagine looking a scientist in the eye while you tell them negative attributes you associate with scientists.
Thing with science is there is open discussion about the problems with it and the literature will change course based on data. Some folks see that as weakness or something that does not work.
