The United States shut its embassy in Kyiv on Wednesday morning due to what it called the threat of a significant air attack, a day after Ukraine used American missiles to hit a target inside Russia in what Moscow described as an escalation in the war.

Can't allow any good American citizens to die in the obvious consequences of their actions.

I am very, very glad that Putin is a reasonable person. He's the only one who has some sense in this entire thing.

The US/NATO bombed the Chinese embassy in Belgrade in 1999, the precedent has been set.

I can only imagine the evacuation looked like a bunch of people hurriedly stuffing handfuls of papers into briefcases like a con man leaving town.

And whatever else they could shove in their pockets. Probably took the silverware too.

Old Soviet listening devices from 60's discovered during ripping off the copper wires from the walls during evacuation of the embassy

Fucking around and finding out, a tale as old as time. They will sacrifice an entire nation but can’t spare a few of their own, it’s very telling.

Can't believe how quickly they're closing the embassy, still.

Yeah it was incredibly quick. I just checked to see if the Canadian embassy also shut down around the same time.

The U.S. State Department later said it expected the Kyiv embassy to resume normal operations on Thursday.

Aw that sucks

The location could not continue normal operating hours as all the spies were temporarily busy. It's like when your local fast food franchise has to close their doors because they treat their workers like doormats and too many walk out.

I mean, if Israel can bomb an embassy in Lebanon and face zero legal repercussions

Gotta keep the puppet master's hands clean...

[-] MarxMadness@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 3 days ago

Sounds like either:

  1. Ukraine launched that attack without U.S. permission, and this is a genuine reaction/punishment, or
  2. The U.S. lied to Ukraine, saying it was OK with the attack, and this is a rugpull that's setting the stage for cutting and running

I think the U.S. is too committed to drawing this war out for #2 to be the answer, so I'm guessing this is Ukraine going off-script and the U.S. brushing them back.

The US has been doing #2 with their proxies all the time though. This is standard procedure for them, to tell their puppet to do something and then punish their puppet for following their orders in order to pretend their hands are clean.
